"Good book, irritating narrator"
I like the story, the series has been great, and this story is on par with the rest of the series. The problem is with the narrator. Ms St Claire has a very sweet voice, but she sounds very, very young. I picture the female lead as a 12 year old because of the narrators voice. This narrator would be better suited for childrens books or young adult. Her Scottish and Portugese accents are better than a few other narrators that have read books in this series have been...I just find the youth of her voice very distracting.
This series seems to struggle with finding a really good narrator, the publisher needs to find someone who can handle different accents well, and that has the ability to do both male and female voices.
"Amused and confused"
I love this series. The narrator is good, Ms. Holloway does a creditable job with accents and differentiating character voices...and there are a LOT of characters to keep track of in these books! The plot thickens in this series, and it is starting to get a little muddled. It is still a great series, I just wonder how much farther the author can take it. in the last book and this one Cassie kills a god (little "g" but still). What does a girl do for an encore after that?
Pritkin. He comes through for Cassie every time; he is reliable, constant, selfless and pretty damn badass; and the sexual tension between them is not to bad either...the only problem is Cassie doesn't seem to even realize she has feelings for him.
I have listened to all of the Cassandra Palmer series so far...and the first two in the Dorina Basarab series. This one is my least favorite so far in the Cassie Palmer series...but not by much, it is still pretty darn good.
Not a one sitting obsession book, but maybe 2 or 3
"Excellent book, poor recording"
The book itself is excellent (as are most of the books in the Dragonriders of Pern series). What was disapointed was the quality of the recording, it sounded like it was recorded in a tunnel...even when downloaded at the best audio quality Audible offers. The narrator was also not up to Anne McCaffrey standards for previous books. The audiobook overall sounded amateurish.
