Fresh from Afghanistan, James Bond has been recruited to a new agency. Conceived in the post-9/11 world, it operates independent of Five, Six and the MoD, its very existence deniable. Its aim: to protect the Realm, by any means necessary. The Night Action alert calls Bond from dinner with a beautiful woman. GCHQ has decrypted an electronic whisper about an attack scheduled for later in the week: casualties estimated in the thousands, British interests adversely affected.

Narrator whispers constantly which greatly detracts from the listening experience. Maybe a well written book, but I'm frustrated and probably will not finish it.

John Rain is back. And “the most charismatic assassin since James Bond” (San Francisco Chronicle) is up against his most formidable enemy yet: the nexus of political, military, media, and corporate factions known only as the Oligarchy. When legendary black ops veteran Colonel Scott “Hort” Horton tracks Rain down in Tokyo, Rain can’t resist the offer: a multi-million dollar payday for the “natural causes” demise of three ultra-high-profile targets who are dangerously close to launching a coup in America. But the opposition on this job is going to be too much for even Rain to pull it off alone.

If you could sum up The Detachment in three words, what would they be?

    Annoying, inferior performance

What didn’t you like about Barry Eisler’s performance?

To me, the spoken words sound raspy. Presenter may have been too close to the microphone.

    Any additional comments?

Annoying performance, I tried a good headset, but I just gave up. Really disappointed with Audible and a waste of money.
