    Story

Barbara Holloway is a trial lawyer who tends to take on difficult cases, but this time it seems there's no defense at all. It appears that Vinny Jessup died when his car rolled over on a bad curve on Lookout Mountain. Then the sheriff finds the gunshot wound. With a large insurance policy as her motive, could his much younger wife have staged the death?

    Kay M says: "Terrific Plot"
    "Narrator hurts this one"
    Overall

The book itself is pretty good, but the narrator
is annoying. Every scene is read in a voice that
sounds like she should be narrating for playboy. It's not easily described, really urgh!

  • One L: The Turbulent True Story of a First Year at Harvard Law School

One L, Scott Turow's journal of his first year at law school and a best seller when it was first published in 1977, has gone on to become a virtual bible for prospective law students. Not only does it introduce with remarkable clarity the ideas and issues that are the stuff of legal education; it also brings alive the anxiety and competitiveness, with others and, even more, with oneself, that set the tone in this crucible of character building.

    william c thill says: "A well-told and well-written account"
    "Good Story"
    Overall

You can really feel what the author is feeling as he writes in his journal about his first year. I don't agree with his politics, and think some of his fears may have been misplaced, but I haven't gone to Harvard Law School, so I can't comment further.

  • The Fountainhead

One of the 20th century's most challenging novels of ideas, The Fountainhead champions the cause of individualism through the story of a gifted young architect who defies the tyranny of conventional public opinion. The struggle for personal integrity in a world that values conformity above creativity is powerfully illustrated through three characters: Howard Roarke, a genius; Gail Wynand, a newspaper mogul and self-made millionaire; and Dominique Francon, a devastating beauty.

    Zachary says: "The Fountainhead"
    "Great Book"
    Overall

Has everything I loved in Atlas Shrugged. A great story with philosophy and romanticism spun in. Definitely worth the credit!

Things are finally looking up for defense attorney Mickey Haller. After two years of wrong turns, Haller is back in the courtroom. When Hollywood lawyer Jerry Vincent is murdered, Haller inherits his biggest case yet: the defense of Walter Elliott, a prominent studio executive accused of murdering his wife and her lover. But as Haller prepares for the case that could launch him into the big time, he learns that Vincent's killer may be coming for him next.

Jeff says: "Five Star Book; Three Star Narration"
    "Not his best work"
    Overall

His previous books were a little better. Some of my dislike for the book may have come from the narrator. He sounded like a bad high school actor trying to read his lines. He couldn't deliver.

People start dropping dead around Charlie, giant ravens perch on his building, and it seems that everywhere he goes, a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad, and before he knows it, those people end up dead, too. Yup, it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job, an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death.

    colleen says: "I loved it!"
    "didn't care for the narrator"
    Overall

He was a little to chic windy or something for my taste. The book itself was ok, the facts introduced early on don't hold up later in the book. So, its a bit inconsistent. Get past that and you have a decent listen ahead.

  • All the Trouble in the World: The Lighter Side of Overpopulation, Famine, Plague, Poverty...

Best selling political humorist P.J. O'Rourke tackles the "fashionable worries" - enormous global problems that are endlessly in the news and constantly on our minds but about which we mostly don't have a clue in this hilarious, thought-provoking audiobook.

A User says: "Hilarious Dead On Read"
    "Hard to listen to"
    Overall

The narrator's voice is pretty deep and is hard to understand to begin with, before the dull content. It starts out pretty funny, but then the author must have run out of material on page 8 or 9 so began repeating himself and adding a lot of filler. Sounds like the narrator got board as well as his monotone doesn't add any fun. I was pretty disappointed.

Eat your heart out, Nostradamus! There's a new soothsayer in town and his name is Scott Adams. The ruthless ridiculer of corporate idiocy, together with Dilbert, Dogbert, and the twits in management, turns his eagle eye on everything from new work-avoiding technology to sex with aliens. He predicts that (finally!) we'll learn to harness the most abundant resource in the universe: stupidity.

    "Scott Adams is great"

I love this book. Especially the part about men & women and who is in charge - really. It's so true!

The book is pretty good, in parts it repeated alot and felt like it was talking down to me. Picks up and gets more interesting about half way through.
