Best-selling author Iyanla Vanzant recounts the last decade of her life and the spiritual lessons learned—from the price of success during her meteoric rise as a TV celebrity on Oprah, the Iyanla TV show (produced by Barbara Walters), to the dissolution of her marriage and her daughter’s 15 months of illness and death on Christmas day. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Iyanla shares why everything we need to learn is reflected in our relationships and explains the strength and wisdom she has gained by supporting others.

Theresa says: "Iyanla is Inspirational! A GREAT LISTEN!!!"
"Well intentioned but too long and drawn out"

Would you try another book from Iyanla Vanzant and/or Iyanla Vanzant?

Of course! I love her.... but I wasn't expected this book to be an autobiography/memoir. It seems as though this book was a healing process for her and I can totally relate to that however, the tag line says: How to get through what your are going through - therefore, I was expecting more ADVISE and less detail by minor detail of her story of abuse.

Had the title of the book or tag line stated "Memoir" - It would have been better and I would have been more prepared. Because I believe this was another healing project for her, I also believe that is why the book is 11 hours long.

It's still a great book....it just caught me off guard is all.

What aspect of Iyanla Vanzant’s performance would you have changed?

I would have changed the detail by detail by detail by detail!!!! There are much better ways to describe an experience in a much shorter way and still convey the same message.

If it were mystery, fiction or true life story....extreme detail would certainly be understood. However, this is a self-help book that simply uses some of her life's experiences to help the point.....so the life story part should be much shorter and to the point.

I hate to say it but that simply makes it drag for me. ~~sorry~~

Do you think Peace from Broken Pieces needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    NO!

    Any additional comments?

It began to lose me in the first chapter! As I was ready and anticipating MUCH NEEDED positive advice.....I almost forgot I was listening to a self-help book because it go straight into her childhood with no references back to how to deal with something....anything...???
