"A pleasantly chilling piece of entertainment"
I really enjoyed this book for a quite original take on the average haunted house story. I was taken in immediatley by the foreword from the author.
Although never quite falling in love wih any of the characters, they were reasonably well drawn with enough back story to have the reader care about what happens to them.
The shocks were well spaced and didnt resort to unecessary gore to highlight them.
I liked the authors performance, as opposed to some reviewers. I tend to think that a lot of male narrators go beserk with lisping female characters and I found Kafers more straight forward reading refreshing. The only caveat on this would be that the man should never sing on a story ever again.
All up a very entertaining way to pass the time.
"Classic novel, well performed."
This is a true original daddy of the genre, one of the first truly well written end of the world novels.
Enough scientific data to be credible to the layman without getting bogged down in detail.
Interesting characters get the reader involved, even if the plot is a little set up at times.
"Standard and not very imaginative horror fare"
This novel is Dean Koontz going through the motions. The story is quite unimaginative and found myself predicting where it would go.
There was certainly not a great deal of tension and I felt as though the characters had been seen in many other similar works.
The narrator did as well as he could with the material but even he sounded disinterested in some places.
There are quite a few other books in the genre that I would recommend ahead of this one.
"Classic literature brought to life"
This classic novel has been wonderfully performed to truly lift the readers overall experience. A tremendous tale that has stood the test of time and will remain one of the all time great novels.
Quite long but I found myself completely absorbed for the entirety. Highly recommended.
"A great read and I was very sorry when it was over"
I have recommended this to many friends and family members whether or not they are 'god people'. The story is strong and very original and provides great entertainment.
I am really surprised that a story told in such an unusual way could have me so engrossed and involoved.
I was genuinely sorry when this story was concluded.
"Truly funny and heartfelt"
Tina Fey is a very talented writer and performer and this is really highlighted here. She is honest and open about the events that have moulded her life and the fact that she reads it herself provides an extra dimension of interest. Very highly recommended.
