"Well, I liked it"
Well, I liked it. Learned a lot of historical tidbits and smiled a lot. Disagreed with a couple of things, but an author's has a right to his or her opinion. Excellent narrator.
"Stilted, painful for the listener"
Stilted narrative, most of which was done in third person. The narrator did a fine job, but can't overcome the book's glacial pace. Charitably gave it two points for the subject matter. I liked Cane River, but not this one. I wish I could get my credit back.
I liked her, but she couldn't save this book.
"So tedious and so poorly narrated"
I tried! I tried! So help me, I tried to listen to the book and enjoy it. It is sooooooooo boring, repetitive, so tedious that it repulses. The narrator is good reading straight text but poor doing characterizations. Then there's Ayla, the superwoman. She's so wonderful that it makes your teeth ache. Skip wherever you can. You won't miss much.
"Wonderful book"
This is a wonderful book. It drew me in, and made me feel that I was there in China with them. P.S. The narrarator, Angela Lin, can really sing!
"Miss It"
My review title says it all, and, no, I don't have to respect the math. Dr. Greene has a slight lisp that occurs infrequently, but frequently enough that it drove me nuts.
"So good."
I loved the book, and the narrators were excellent. My heart ached for the mother, but cheered as she triumphed by love. A widow with twelve children, but such boundless energy and faith!
