  • Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, and the Education of a President

The hidden history of Wall Street and the White House comes down to a single American concept: confidence. Both centers of power, New York and Washington, learned how to manufacture it - until August 2007, when that confidence began to crumble. Ron Suskind here tells the story of what happened next, as Wall Street struggled to save itself while a man with little experience and soaring rhetoric emerged from obscurity to usher in "a new era of responsibility".

I do not like James Lurie's narration. He reads as though this is a dark mystery and in addition he was putting me to sleep. This is one that is better read than listened to in my opinion.

Aidan and Sarah Cooper have no idea what they’re getting into one afternoon when they discover a mysterious coded document in a secret compartment of an antique English desk their father recently bought at an auction. Something about the document seems familiar to Sarah, and that night she realizes what it is: the document seems to be referring to some books she has read - the Starcatchers series, about the origin of Peter Pan. But how could that be? The document seems far older than the books. And of course, the books are just stories....

Douglass spent his first 20 years in slavery, before escaping to the North. As a slave, he experienced both the kindness of his master's wife, who taught him to read, as well as the cruelty of sadistic overseers. This powerful story helped recruit many to the abolitionist cause.

These are often hard to read - just because they are true and these men and women suffered tremendously. But as a Black American, I want to know the truth.

It is a good book and enlightening to know the great accomplishments and amazing obstacles he overcame. Recommend.

This volume of short essays and other pieces by C. S. Lewis is part of a larger collection, C. S. Lewis: Essay Collection and Other Short Pieces. In addition to his many books, letters, and poems, C. S. Lewis wrote a great number of essays and shorter pieces on various subjects. He wrote extensively on Christian theology and the defense of faith but also on ethical issues and the nature of literature and storytelling. Within this audiobook is a treasure trove of Lewis' reflections on diverse topics.

Modern life can seem like being lost in a jungle. With distractions and dangers emerging from every direction, it's easy to lose focus. Over time, we lose touch with one of our most powerful, purposeful, God-given attributes - the desire to be fruitful and multiply, what Bishop T. D. Jakes calls our "instinct for increase". Combining historical, cultural, and personal examples with biblical insights, in Instinct Bishop Jakes outlines how to rediscover your natural aptitudes and reclaim the wisdom of your past experiences.

Nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh has long wanted to make American history come to life for the children of his listeners. In Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, he created the character of a fearless middle-school history teacher named Rush Revere, who travels back in time and experiences American history as it happens, in adventures with exceptional Americans. In this second book in the series, Rush Revere is transported back to the people and events leading up to the American Revolution.

Liberty, my wisecracking horse, our old friends Cam, Tommy, Freedom, and I are off to meet some super-brave soldiers in the year 1775. Yep, that’s right. We’ll be visiting with the underdog heroes who fought for American independence, against all odds - and won! But not before eight very real years of danger and uncertainty. Be a part of Rush Revere’s crew as we rush, rush, rush into a time when British rule had become a royal pain, and rebellion was in the air.

This is a very entertaining book and will help you and your child learn a little history along the way. Rush narrates this himself and does a great job.
If you've read his first two history books and enjoyed them, you'll like this one as well.... same general set up just different history lesson.
Recommend for just about any age.

This was a good book, not at the top of list as suspend novels go, but it held my interest. There were a few unexpected twists in there. Worth the listen if you have time. The Narrator was decent, he certainly did not spoil the book as a bad narrator does. All in all, it was a good book, not great, but it held my interested. I recommend.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

This story is very captivating. The newly released movie is nearly 100% true to the book. The only reason i didn't rate it 5 stars was because I would have preferred less foul language... but that is my personal preference. The story was really good. I recommend both the movie and the book.

An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him. Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high-school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.

    Story

I was really enjoying this story, it unfolded kind of slow but was interesting. The narrator is not real good but they did not mess up the story - so it was ok.
Toward the end I was really getting into the story and then the last 3 or so hours it became apparent that this book /story had evolved into a rant from an Anti- Death Penalty perspective. That was disappointing because it took away from my enjoyment.
Other than that, it was good, I would recommend
