"just love it"
The story is great, but I knew that already since I read the book.
I fell in love with the narrator on the spot, he is great, wonderful accent, great story teller. Such a pity the book is abridged! Could have listened to it for much, much longer.
"great listen"
Already listened to this book twice and there will be more times to follow. It's a great listen. Especially enjoyed the chapters about the early and medieval history - fascinating.
The story is well written, witty, very informative and even thrilling (like history is). Since I am not English I am definitely not the one to criticise the reading - to my ears the narrator does a great job.
Could not have spent my monthly credit better!
"great fun"
Well, I am not versed in speaking Middle Englisch (English is not even my mother tongue) nor am I student of Medieval languages. Therfore I cannot even say if this reading of Chaucer is correct or not... But I can say that I thoroughly enjoy it. Just love the rhythm, the rhymes and that wonderful language and to me the reading sounds really well done.
And I am definitely going to read the Canterbury Tales! Should have done that long before...
"Mother of all Mummy-Stories"
As far as I know the Jewel of the Seven Stars is the mother of all Mummy Stories (movies, etcetera). Being Egyptologist myself this of course is must-have literature. And I thoroughly enjoy Stoker's great story, again and again. I just love this book - great listen wherever you are.
The reading is very good, skilled and well told (though the actual audio quality could have been better).
