Suicide bombers are easy to spot. They give out all kinds of tell-tale signs, mostly because they're nervous. By definition they're all first-timers. Riding the subway in New York at 2:00 in the morning, Reacher knows the 12 giveaway signs to look out for. Watching one of his fellow passengers, he becomes sharply aware: one by one, she ticks off every bulletpoint on his list.

i normally love this character, but i'm getting a bit bored with him. the book has an absolutely brilliant beginning and completely draws you in, but reacher is (literally and figuratively) getting a bit old.

it's a bit like a re-hash of his older novels, except it's written in the first person, which is rather odd. but come on jack, it's 2011! i refuse to believe someone could still be so technologically illiterate. learn how to use a computer/mobile phone etc. my mum's nearly 80 and she is more techno-literate than Reacher! it's really beginning to stretch credulity and my patience.

overall a solid, (but apart from first few chapters), unexciting listen.

I was keen on the set up for this story. Military vampires! where could you go wrong? Well, with the narration. The narrator has the most odd way of phrasing and emphasis on the wrong words/part of the sentence. Also, upspeak, upspeak, upspeak!!! I couldn't get past two hours even though I really tried.

It may be my British ears thats making this difficult, but other American narrators sound fine. This person's style was just weird. I will read the Kindle book instead.

Matt Hollis is the current wielder of the holy weapon, DÄMOREN. With it, he stalks and destroys demons. A secret society called the VALDUCANS has taken an interest in Matt's activities. They see him as a reckless rogue - little more than a "cowboy" corrupted by a monster - and a potential threat to their ancient order. As knights and their sentient weapons begin dying, Matt teams up with other hunters of his kind such as LUIZA, a woman with a conquistador blade; ALLAN, an Englishman with an Egyptian khopesh; MALCOLM, a voodoo priest with a sanctified machete; and TAKAIRA, a naginata-swinging Samurai.

A wonderful listen. A gripping story right from the first scenes. A slight lag in the middle, but the pace then moves on quickly. I listened to this in about three days, at every opportunity. Totally enjoyable. The only detraction was the dire attempt at an English accent, but that seems par for the course with American voice actors. Otherwise, very well delivered.

The story bears a remarkable similarity to the YA book Matt Archer, Monster Hunter - something odd going on here methinks!

Will definitely listen to the rest of the series. Good work Seth!

But that's not the half of it. After Matt is forced to kill a strange creature to save his uncle, he finds out that the weird knife he took from his uncle's bag has a secret, one that will change Matt's life.

Great story, great narration. Gets straight into the action. Total audio enjoyment!!!

I'm not exactly the target demographic, being a 50-year old mum of 3, but my 14 year old son and I listened to this at the same time and we both really enjoyed it. We discussed the story etc together. It was simple, unadulterated fun.

Problem is: where is the rest of the series? Audible, can you please get on to this.

I am now reading the second one on my Kindle, the first time I've ventured into a print book in over a year, as I haven't much spare time. But I just couldn't wait to find out what happens next.

PS: a great tip about the peanut butter sandwiches. Which I am now enforcing, much to my son's disgruntlement!

Hugely enjoyable story. Gruesome, gory and gripping. I loved the story but the narration ever so slightly over the top in some places. But hey that sort of added to the fun. I think the best book in the series so far. Loved the Mother Night character. And Ghost and his delicate eating habits. (I think Ghost should pair off with Maggie, from 'Suspect'. By Robert Crais - I think)

But the ending seemed a bit rushed. The only let down. Am really looking forward to the next book. An 'appointment to listen'!

A job well done Mr Author and Narrator.

Scranton, the strangest city on earth has an uneasy “live and let unlive” relationship with the supernatural. But when a vamp puts the bite on an unwilling victim, or some witch casts the wrong kind of spell, that’s when they call me. “My name’s Markowski, a Detective Sergeant on the Scranton PD’s Supernatural Crimes Investigation Unit. I carry a badge. Also, a crucifix, some wooden stakes, a big vial of holy water, and a 9mm Beretta loaded with silver bullets.”

I love this author and was really pleased to have his books on Audio, having read all of them.

Really well thought out story and good world-building. Narration was top notch too. But the swearing.... What a potty mouth Mr Gustainis has! (I never really noticed it in the print version somehow).

He needs to wash his mouth out with soap! Seriously, it's a good listen and I'm going to download the others in the series.

I enjoyed this story. An original idea. Very interesting. I will certainly be on the lookout for the other books in the series.

The narration was generally good and the characters well read. But, the appalling, terrible attempt at a Northern Irish accent just kept pulling me out. What was that? More like Scottish, West Country, with a bit of god know what else thrown in. If narrators can't do accents properly, then don't narrate a story! Get someone else to do it. Given that the character Never played an important part in the book, this was a constant distraction. I nearly gave up because of this.

However, I'm glad I didn't after all, because the ending certainly leaves you wanting more.

A fantastic story, wonderfully read. Absolutely flawless.

I think this is the best series I have downloaded in 5 years plus of listening to Audible with about 600 books in my library.

    The ending, what a shocker!!!!!

I would LOVE to hear more about Bartimaeus.

Why isn't Jonathan Stroud as famous as J K Rowling? Where are the films?

MUCH MUCH better than Harry Potter in every way. I can't enthuse about this series of books enough! Don't be put off by the age of the protagonists, I'm nearly 50 and I enjoyed it a much as my 11 and 13 year olds.

I am now a total fan of Jonathan Stroud. Many more books. Please!!!

Ten years ago, Nate Garrett awoke on a cold warehouse floor with no memory of his past and the only clues to his identity were a piece of paper with his name on it and a propensity toward magic. When they cause a job to go bad, threatening a sixteen-year-old girl, Nate swears to protect her.

OK, maybe I wasn't concentrating properly, but I kept losing my place in this book. I found the plot really confusing.

I was constantly rewinding to check I hadn't missed something. Maybe this was because the story jumps back and forward in time.

But I liked the main character, Nate and would be interested in what happens to him in future.

I didn't like the narrator. Some of his voices sounded like Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins, which considering he is English takes some doing! He also had an odd habit of stressing the wrong words, which added to my overall confusion.

I had begun reading the kindle book, which was OK, but listening to this was a chore rather than an enjoyable experience
