What did you love best about Frost Burned?

The continuation of Mercy's story. I love series because I don't like giving up characters. This book follows a very similar structure as all the rest of the Mercy books, but it is an enjoyable read. Fast paced, high action, and the perfect blend for an urban fantasy.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mercy, of course. Our heroine is the reason to read these book. Possibly followed by Stephan ... I like brooding, conflicted, and unhappy characters.

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She does a great job. She reads all of the Mercy books, and I am now attached to her and her style of reading. I smile every time she says "car" because of the accent that comes out. : )

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Moved ... not really, but I liked the interaction between Mercy and Marsillia. Two very different women and it is interesting to see them having to work together.

    Any additional comments?

    Love Patricia Briggs!

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I felt like the book took forever to get started .. even 30 hours into the book I was still waiting for the POINT to show up. I felt like there had to be something bigger that would eventually happen. The author really didn't use the whole "time travel" element.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have moved faster. I would have had FAR less torture. Jamie should not be alive with the amount of times he was mortally injured. It got old. Also - I had a hard time investing in Claire and Jamie. It just never worked for me.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I was excited when she found another time traveler, but again the author lost a great opportunity. This character dies before what is interesting about her can be discussed. It was so frustrating. I would have loved to read a scene where Claire and this other character talk, compare experiences, past history, etc.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I will probably watch the HBO series, out of morbid curiosity. I am just so confused why everyone loves this so much, why there are so many books, and why HBO would take this on. I hate this feeling that I am just missing something. It is truly beyond me that there are so many of these books. I couldn't wait for this first on to be over.

    Any additional comments?

I was so excited to read this book, and was surprised to be so disappointed. Needless to say, I won't be reading the next 8 books.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really. This book is right in my wheel house and I fully expected to love it. However, I found that I couldn't connect to the two main characters or their love story. I just never got invested in their love and it never felt quite authentic to me. Also, the entire book was spent waiting for one event to happen. I found myself wishing the book would just end so I could stop waiting to a series of non-events. I felt like this book needed a second act. I felt like Lena's birthday should have happened half way through the book, and the second half of the book should have been dedicated to a new event or conflict. I wanted to love this book, but found myself bored.

Also, the writing style was not as rich and descriptive as I usually read, so even the text was not engaging.

Would you be willing to try another book from Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl ? Why or why not?

I'm not sure. There is a morbid curiosity in me that wonders what the second book is like and if there is any improvement in the pacing and story telling. The end of book one was not encouraging as it seems that book two might just be another long wait for Lena to turn 17.

    Which scene was your favorite?

None really stand out more than any other. I suppose the final climax, just because something was finally happening.

Could you see Beautiful Creatures being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    It already has been.

    Any additional comments?

    I was disappointed.
