I can hardly wait to download the next book by Ben Bova! This is by far the best I have read/listened to since Sir Arthur C. Clarke's works. Just cannot get enough. The Mars series was also fantastic, as was the Sam Gunn Omnibus. The narration is exquisite.
This narrator brings this book to life with assigning different voices to each character.
The young man's ability to love with devotion.
Thoughtful exploration of the emotional effects on an abandoned child carried through his adult life in tandem with the experiences, commitment and teachings of the man who found this abandoned baby. Not only is this a gripping story of the people involved, it also examines the psychological impacts of one life event and the history behind it, the ripples it causes throughout the years and how everyone handles it to the best of their abilities. It is a story of change, of growth, of secrets and truths and of obstacles that may or may not be overcome, depending on one's outlook on life. The characters in this book have been carefully and meticulously described and explained on many levels and from many points of view. I highly doubt I will forget those individuals or this book. Because of the basic human interest story aspect, I highly recommend this read.
Harry Bosch is a memorable and likable character. Dick Hill does an excellent job narrating. I especially love the saxophone interludes and the special effects during phone calls. The story could have been a bit tighter, but it was still a satisfying read. I really enjoy the character Harry Bosch. He sort of grows on me. Ok, I am hooked now and will listen to the entire series.
Dick Hill is one of my favorite narrators and as usual his narration was brilliant. This was the first time I listened to a Harry Bosch series book and I loved it! It had the ambience of the old time detective stories. The history of tunnel rats was so interesting and I think anyone can understand how that must affect a man after the war is long over. Plenty of plot twists kept my interest. I had to immediately listen to the second book in the series.
Mrs. Pollifax, of course! She is the most adventurous, brave and adorable senior citizen following her dream. I loved the way she interacted with every character with the utmost kindness and respect. She was capable of performing most difficult acts, even when she had moral dilemmas, if it saved lives.
I like all the characters Barbara performed as. Every single one was spot on. Barbara Rosenblat is the perfect narrator for this book!
The escape, specifically after Mrs. Pollifax accidentally stepped off the cliff.
I am delighted to have stumbled upon this remarkable book and I am looking forward to listening to the entire series. I hope they are all available in audio format. If not, I shall read them. I am hooked on this series and this author. I can relate to the main character, the time period and the political situations of her times.
What fascinated me most about this book was the fact that I had to keep listening to story until I found myself chin deep in red herrings, plot twists and then I had to unravel everything until the end. This is a twisted story about twisted people and it is deliciously addictive. I enjoyed both narrators. I did not recognize the Carthage Missouri, where I live, but that is artistic license on the author's part, which did not take away from the story line.
At times the story confused me and I had to listen to the last chapters a second time, before I got it. This is a bit of parody, a touching and heartfelt story, kind of a Trekkie's fun read with big twists and a lot of turns. Scalzi comes up with the most imaginative and crazy plots. The only downside was the repetition of the word "said" throughout the book. Overall, this is still worth a listen and I do enjoy Will Wheaton's narration very much.
The music, the Voice and the dramatization. Audible, please provide more just like this one! You have a winner here! :-)
The Voice...freaky scary
This is one of the scariest novels I have listen to, and one of the most enjoyable short audible dramatized books. I cannot count the many times I jumped, startled by the musical score or the voices of the narrators. The premise of the story is simply fascinating, raising questions about reincarnation, regression therapy, insanity, fear and revenge.
Setting: Berlin, Germany. Characters: Ten year old Simon - termally ill, does not want to die before he knows if he killed people in a former life, Rober Stern - defense attorney, Carina - nurse, Andi Borchart - former criminal, Engler - investigating police officer.
There are not many books by Sebastian Fitzek available in English translation, nor as e-books, however, being fluent in German in will read everything this fine author has in print in his native language.
The perfect combination of Scalzi and Wheaton make for an enjoyable listen. I usually prefer lengthy audio books, but this one was an exception. This book has fabulous characters, is a great great sci-fi yarn with excellent narration. I had to finish it in two sessions. The story has an interesting twist on mankind's destructive nature vs. sentient inhabitants of a far away planet and perceptions in general. I love this book and Will Wheaton did an outstanding job as narrator.
This is a unique and intelligently written sci-fi novel of first class! I highly recommend this to hard sci-fi lovers of Asimov, Clarke, Bova etc. It is fast paced, makes sense and takes the reader to a stunning conclusion!
Mind over matter
Every character Rick Hill performs as is the best. I enjoy his narration very much. To me he is the perfect narrator!
The movie was beautiful, but I needed to know more. Reading this book was an enlightening experience. Neurotic HAL needed to "remove the sources of his frustrations". His conflict between telling the truth and withholding the truth drove him over the edge. Sir Arthur C. Clarke also addresses "conflict between mind and matter". As usual, Clarke achieved his goal in providing us with an outstanding read, transporting the reader light years away from our home planet.
Superior narration by Dick Hill!
