This book was too slow and character-driven for my tastes - "The Harlequin" which comes next was much better I thought, although Danse Macabre does set up a few characters and plots for the next couple of books. It is also smothered by vampire politics which I found hard to follow as they were pretty dull really. I kept listening in case something interesting did actually happen at some point but if I had been reading it I would have skimmed through it just to pick up the new characters and find out whether Anita was pregnant by the end! Narrator mostly good except for pronouncing "ardeur" as "ardoo-er" which really grated on me after the first few times especially when even Jean-Claude (native French speaker!) did it too.... It put me off listening to the rest of the series which I am sad about.
