What a fun little book! It was filled with everything you want an adventure to have. I'm going to recommend this to my 5th grade students. I think they will enjoy reading about the reluctant hero.
Overall I enjoyed this book.
Pluses: I enjoy anything that has a dog as one of the characters. The mystery was well done. I was sure I had it all figured out and suddenly I didn't.
Minuses: The main character spends too much time reliving his past. I was ready for him to get on with it already and to quit telling me about his wife in particular.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had the right mix of police procedural, mystery, and fantasy. It was fun. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith was perfect and made the book come alive for me. I know some reviewers had problems with his American accents, but he was so entertaining that I just really didn't care. I quickly snapped up the next two books in the series and polished them off within the week as well. I am sad that I now have to wait on the next one. However, I think I'll go see what else Holdbrook-Smith has at Audible. I think I'd like anything that he read.
Brandon Sanderson has done it again. This was a great book that pulled me in from the very beginning. The world building and magic system were both unique. It's intended audience is young adult but I enjoyed it as well.
I read The Lost Gate and really liked it. So, I was waiting anxiously for this book. Things take forever to develop. The author spends a lot of time dealing with teenage angst. I think what it boils down to is a whole lot of talk and not a lot of action.
I had so much fun listening to this book. The story was great. The narrator was spot on. He was exactly what I'd expect a Hollywood agent to sound like. The wise cracking alien was an additional bright spot.
I am going to give this series one more shot. However I need some closure with some of the plot lines. Anderson keeps adding and adding without giving closure or even a measure of satisfaction to the reader.
I enjoy the characters and the world that the author has created. I'd like to feel that we're getting somewhere.
I originally picked this book up because I???ve always been crazy about dogs. I learned a lot more about service dogs as well as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and brain injuries. I was fascinated by Luis and Tuesday???s story. The things dogs can learn to do still amaze me. I was appalled at finding out the amount and kind of discrimination that disabled people and their service animals face. This is something our country needs to change. I'm not sure yet what I'll do with all of that information. For now, I'll keep my eyes open for opportunities to make a difference.
I bought this book based on recommendations, but it just wasn't my type. I love science fiction and fantasy, but this didn't do it for me. Too much anti Christian. It made me uncomfortable. I'm glad I only spent $4.95.
I wish I had my $4.95 back. I should have read the reviews, and I should have known better. A romance author doesn't make the best military fiction author.
