"Kinda Good"
Well, I love the ideas in this story, but sometimes I think the author just doesn't trust young readers to come to reasonable conclusions, so he has to spell it out. And I mean really spell it out. The ideas were good enough for me to get past the narrative when it got really bad. Unfortunately for me, I like the ideas enough to probably read the second book as well. But maybe I will get it from the library instead of buying it this time around.
"Surprisingly good"
Despite the good reviews, I was still skeptical because the idea of love being a disease sounded kinda stupid, but this was a superb book and the narrator, which I thought would be annoying, was excellent. She did voices that embodied the characters very well.
I really enjoyed this book and it was not as childish as I had expected. I definitely would recommend this to a friend.
"Good book, decent narration"
The story is really well done. The only thing about it that I did not enjoy was some of the graphic violence, but the nice thing about the audio is that it takes seconds to skip it.
Some folks have complained about the narration. The author is no Jim Dale (Harry Potter) narrator, but he is pretty good, and believe me I have heard way worse. It only took me a chapter to get drawn into the story and then I did not notice his narrator voice anymore. The sample listen give a good sample of the authors voice and style, so unless you are super picky and just can't stand anything but perfection from your narrator, it is a good pick.
"A good read"
This isn't the Hunger Games. There isn't a lot of crazy death-defying action, but I think it is a very interesting read on a possible society (in that regard, like the Hunger Games). It isn't officially stated, but it is a commentary on communism (at least in my mind) that kinda worked well, only you see a lot of the flaws in its principals of why everyone isn't happy getting exactly the same everything and having their life controlled to nth degree. I found it very well thought out and interesting. I enjoyed the narrator, the story and the writing style.
"Excellent"
I have already listened to it several times. The narrator is excellent and the story is excellent. Sometimes stories are so good that I can ignore a bad narrator, but I usually don't listen again. This book had it all.
For young adult, fantasy, scifi fans this book had it all. A little romance, that wasn't over powering, a great story where the female lead wasn't some whining woos, but a believable flawed/fantastic person, excellent writing/imagery, and a good narrator. If you liked Hunger Games, you will like this book.
I cannot wait for the next installment.
Yes
"Well Written and Fantastic Narrator"
I am not one to leave reviews, but I was extremely pleased with this purchase. The narrator was wonderful, and I found the story fun, with plenty of relatively believable sex, unlike a lot of other Romance novels. The story itself was believable, which is saying something for historical Romance novels these days.
