The Sweet Potato Queen books brighten up my commute and have me laughing out loud on my vanpool. I have to be careful not to drink while listening because otherwise I'll surely squirt liquid from my nose. And try the recipes if you don't mind dieting for a week afterwards!
I was so excited when I saw that the Dune series was going to continue on, but the series written by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson is very disappointing. The characters are flat and act in entirely predictable and stereotyped ways. These stories read like the worst of the 50s sci fi with bug-eyed monsters and screaming damsels in distress. I'd rather read the original books.
It was very hard to hear Hunter S. Thompson talking in The Gonzo Tapes because these recordings take place at parties, in his car, and other places with lots of background noise or music. Still it was fun to see how he transformed his ideas from his recorded thoughts to the published works. Unless you're a real fan, I'd stick to the actual works he published.
The Stupidest Angel is the funniest holiday story I've heard in a long time. Once the ladies in the Bulges Fitness Center pull out their cell phones just like the Jets pulled out switchblades in West Side Story, I knew I was going to laugh out loud on my vanpool every day until I was done. With zombies, warrior princesses, and a none too bright angel, Pine Cove will never be the same again.
