I was skeptical about listening to this book because I am a dog lover and I was afraid that it would be too sad for me. However, this was incredibly well-written. I never got to the point where I was too distraught to listen. This book took me through a full range of emotions. One minute I was tearing up and the next I was chuckling to myself. It brought to mind my own beloved dog(s).
I highly recommend this book!!!
This was a well-written story that seamlessly melded historical fiction with present day fiction. One of the best books I've come across in a very long time.
I like Wally Lamb's earlier works, especially "She's Come Undone". I would give him another try.
I think that there was too much day to day detail. I would have preferred to have gotten more into the characters' heads. That being said, Wally Lamb did an amazing job of relaying the viewpoint of the pedophile.
I didn't particularly care for the narrator who read the part of Annie.
His portrayal of the pedophile was amazing but disturbing.
Deliciously creepy, well-woven
I enjoyed the story told from different character view-points and time-frames. It melded together nicely.
Voices were too stilted, too raspy.
Really wish I had had the time to read it in print next to a fire on a dark winter's night.
It's going to be a movie some day.
I really enjoy Gillian Flynn's writing however, this book was a bit graphic at points. There were parts that were very difficult to listen to. I prefer her other books over this one.
The narrator was superb. He commanded a variety of accents with ease and believability. In other words, the accents were not forced. The story was delightful. Fenno held the perfect mix in a character, lovable, but with enough flaws to make the reader care about him.
Three hours into the story and I have yet to hear anything that compells me to keep listening. The only reason I listened for that long was because I was traveling and I had not downloaded another audiobook. Too much description, not enough action. I have no idea what the protagonist's goal was, and I never will. I gave up.
