Would you listen to The Book of Investing Wisdom again? Why?

The reader reminds me of an old radio program, in how he introduces the story and then tells it. It was a wonderful way of presenting this information. Absolutely loved it!

  • When I Met Food: Living the American Restaurant Dream

Kathy Sidell’s earliest memories bring her back to food. At age five she was taken with her grandmother’s artistry in the kitchen, and even more so by the big family meals shared on the front porch of their seaside home. Though raised among foodies - her mother, a talented home entertainer; her banker father who single-handedly is credited for building the restaurant business in Boston; and her sister, now a chef and restaurateur - Kathy’s route to food was not as linear.

What could Kathy Sidell have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I thought this book was about a successful restaurantuer discussing the restaurant business, cooking and food. The first-two hours, the author spends almost all of her time talking about how her father started a bank, which became one of the biggest in the area, then how he created the restaurant scene in Boston. How her mother raised her kids to be highly educated, successful and want big homes. How she traveled the world with her family, spent time on her families Sail boats and eventually got her own Sail boat. How her sister was a competitive skater blah blah blah. Very little was spent talking about restaurants or food. This was like a book to brag about her families wealth, status and success. It was so self-focused, gloating and too much effort trying to influence the listener about how successful she and her family is. Gave up after 2 ½ hours and returned the audio book!

  • How the Stock Market Works

This course is an introduction to the stock market and stock investing for novices and experienced investors alike. Professor DeGennaro uses simple analogies to explain the origin of stocks and other securities, as well as their relative risks. He stresses the danger of trying to beat the market by trying to pick winners, predict price trends, or otherwise find opportunities that other investors have missed.

Eric Dudeck says: "Bad analogies and useless anecdotes"
"Extraordinary story teller with lots of value add!"

This is an advanced course for investors in the market, covering cutting-edge investment principles and practices used by professionals. You learn hands-on techniques for analyzing the central problem of investing: How to determine if a potential investment is a good deal. Employing concepts from probability and statistics, you learn how to measure risk accurately. Then you explore methods for determining if a given security, such as a stock or bond, will generate returns that compensate for its risk.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I love math, but the author speaks so quickly that i get lost following his discussion of various investment formulas. After 3-hours of listening, seems like most of this audio book focuses on financial math and formulas; not investments.
