Along with being a great lesson in art history, this book was full of the Dan Brown twists and turns. It engaged me from start to finish (and not just because I was stuck on a roadtrip!)
Perhaps it is because I did not read the prior books in the series first, but I could not connect with the characters -- they were quite one-dimensional. As for the narrator, his narration style was about to put me to sleep ... especially the pregnant pauses. "Yes" ......Peggy said.....I would like a cup of coffee." Oh please!
Half way through I was hoping it was over! If you are looking for something to engage you, don't pick this booK
What a fun book! I do appreciate the irreverance of the main character and the narrator does a bang-up job of bringing the character to live. It is not the most suspenseful crime drama, and the story is a bit lacking, but over all it is a great "read."
If your looking for a heavy classic, skip this book; but if your looking for a good, lighthearted listen, you'll enjoy Open & Shut. It has its suspense, but the main character is wonderfully irreverrant and makes it an pleasent listen. The book never devolves into deep, heavy character building, but it isn't necessary. One gets to know the characters through the story line. I look forward to getting more of Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series.
A very interesting listen! The book not only tells of the king's battle with stuttering, but offers insights into the events of the time.
Very slow moving and really quite a waste of time; when I find myself doing other things instead of listening to the book, I know it's not for me! Half-way through I just gave up and moved along to another book.
No, as I like this genre of book.
She's only as good as the words she is given to read. While a good narrater, there wasn't much she could do for the story.
While this may be from a best selling author, I really wish I hadn't spent the money to get it. It is very slow moving and really not that interesting.
