Mindset is one of those rare audio books that can help you make positive changes in your life and at the same time see the world in a new way. A leading expert in motivation and personality psychology, Carol Dweck has discovered in more than 20 years of research that our mindset is not a minor personality quirk: it creates our whole mental world. It explains how we become optimistic or pessimistic. It shapes our goals, our attitude toward work, and ultimately predicts whether or not we will fulfull our potential.

    What disappointed you about Mindset?

Way too much hype about how this book is revolutionary and was the first blah, blah, blah. I heard these theories before and felt insulted by the elementary presentation. I got so tired of the "infomercial" interjected in the actual "how to", I had to stop the CD on the first disc. It was very irritating! And, while I do like it when the author performs the preface, Ms. Dweck either needs to refrain from speaking this part or take performance lessons. No offense intended. Her performance is monotone and lackluster. I thought to myself as I was listening to this part, "If she's the narrator, I'm going to ask for my money back". While I was pleased with Marguerite Gavin's performance, the material was grating on my nerves by hopping between the subject matter and congratulating itself for being the first in this field of study.

What could Carol Dweck have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Taken performance lessons or let someone else perform the preface. Also, take out all of the pumping up of the study. Maybe it would have a better flow.

What three words best describe Marguerite Gavin’s performance?

    Perky, clear, pleasant.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Irritation.

Yes. I'll listen to it again and again as I meditate and work on things that require focus. It's not intrusive, but yet is calming.

The whole album is soothing, but not intrusive.

    N/A

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

What did you love best about 11-22-63?

The cohesive story line with fully developed characters. It was easy to listen to and follow. And Craig Wasson's narration made it the best book I've listened to/read in many years.

What other book might you compare 11-22-63 to and why?

I hadn't read any comparable books to this one. I'm not generally interested in JFK Assassination conjecture stories.

What does Craig Wasson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I would have missed the wonderful voice inflection he used during the narration, the range of emotion he gave to the characters. It really brought them to life. And it was funny how Craig made a couple of the characters (that were harmonically linked) sound like Burt Lancaster and another sound like Jimmy Stewart. Very entertaining!

    Any additional comments?

    Entirely enjoyable!

Doctor Dolittle, a little, lovable, old doctor, has so many animal pets spread throughout his house and garden that patients will not come to him anymore. As a result, he becomes poorer and poorer. But he occupies nearly all of his time as the animals' doctor, and soon discovers that he can talk to the animals; Jip the dog, Dab Dab the duck, and Polynesia the parrot.
