With some of the most spine-chilling scenes in modern suspense fiction, Bait guarantees the listener a roller coaster ride with a hero not afraid to cross the line. Life for narcotics detective Jack Walsh is one continuous drunken binge - until one blurry night when his car veers into an oncoming car, killing the son of Boston’s premier crime boss. Now Jack must decide if he wants to hide from D’Angelo’s vengeful compatriots or reclaim his life.

    What disappointed you about Bait?

Bait reads like an automotive repair manual. The characters are flat to the point I had no feeling for the protagonist and couldn't care whether he lived, died or blew up in a cloud of smoke. In fact, everyone in this book feels wooden, like furniture.

Thrillers need to move quickly and typically do this through economic prose. But there is economy and there is terseness. Abel is so terse and ground is covered so quickly, it is nearly impossible to follow the plot. I gave up after three chapters and I read a LOT of thrillers.

Has Bait turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. It's so bad, it's in a class by itself.

Did Frank Muller do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

No. His performance was as flat as the text.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    None whatsoever.

    Any additional comments?

    Buy something else—anything whatsoever.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Absolutely!

To say that Daimones is an exceptional work, is an understatement. To say it is unusual, even more so. While it lacks the action most science fiction thrives on, Massimo Marino maintains tension almost from the story’s outset and doesn’t let it drop until the story’s unexpected conclusion. With a clarity of language and style few writers achieve, his elegantly painted scenes transport the reader straight to Geneva where, after a windstorm throws the protagonist out of his everyday existence into a surreal but believable one, the reader is compelled keep turning pages to learn the reason why.

Marino blends renditions of recent news stories with science and mysticism into an explanation that will give the reader reason to question mankind’s current state of affairs. Just as The Matrix gave one plausible explanation to our existence, Daimones offers another.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dan was immediately believable and identifiable. His reactions to the predicments the author placed him in were highly credible.

What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?

Mr. Hays has an easy reading style that, except of an occasional mispronounced word (e.g.: the initial consonant of chasm as a "ch" rather than a "k", or the "a" of acrid as a long "a"), did not interfere with the "reading" experience.

Some of the worst writing I've ever encountered: "Her look made him have to answer her again"; "He had a headache from having his head whacked hard against the wall"; "He grabbed him by his husky wrist". How did he ever get published? Please tell me Goodkind is a high school sophomore who got lucky.
