Mark Kurlansky, winner of the James Beard Award for Excellence in Food Writing, leads us on a mouthwatering culinary tour around the world and through history and culture from the fifth century B.C. to the present day. This wonderful collection contains essays by Plato on the art of cooking, Pablo Neruda on french fries, and many other writers on the passions of cuisine.

Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July, 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive. This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

Would you consider the audio edition of Lone Survivor to be better than the print version?

I like the audio version when I'm driving or running or walking. But if I was just sitting around--I would probably like it in print.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lone Survivor?

Hell Week as Marcus describes in his book is amazing and he is very tough

Which character – as performed by Kevin Collins – was your favorite?

of course the main character Marcus--a tough Texas cowboy with a twin brother by the name of Morgan. He is great because he always tries so hard at everything and he loves America and Texas.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes

    Any additional comments?

I will hate to finish it. But then I would love to meet the author and his family and hear more about everything. It's very good
