Very comprehensive book that attempts to trace not just when and where but why the flu happened. The off shoot of this is to describe the state of medicine in the world at that time (mainly in the U. S.). It then describes the event. This is the horror part. It finally describes the current state of medicine - another frightening section. It could happen again.

This book has stayed with me.

This is the most truthful, comprehensive book on WWII I have read. It is well written and divided into thoughtfully unique sections. The narrator is excellent. If you have any interest in WWII this would be the book you should start with, read other books and then come back to this one. I was very impressed. One warning - you may not like everything you hear. It is truthful and comprehensive.

There is some confusion on the temperatures given. It may be a conversion issue or the narrator may not have read negative numbers in every instance. I would have liked to have more information on POW camps.

I disagree with some of the other reviewers. I think they have missed the point. This is an excellent translation that would be a great part of any bible study series. King James, on the other hand, is excellent poetry. I have gotten much more spiritual enlightenment from this document than I ever could from a more formal version. I find it hard to believe that Jesus or Paul actually spoke as formally as King James, but I find it quite plausible for them to speak in the manner found in The Message. Anyone could benefit from this book. Lighten up guys.

I was expecting a film noire type plot. This was not that type of book. In a way I was disappointed. In another way I have read a book that was able to paint an incredibly dark and descriptive narrative. Dark may not be the best word, shadowy might be better. I don't think this book will be in my top ten list, but is was one of the most memorable, creative, and flowering. I think a female would enjoy this book more than a male. Anyone, however, should like it.

Aside from the philosophy of an unnecessarily egotistical atheist, the characters are one dimensional and lack true depth. The author pretends to be an intellectual, but in what regard? It seems that if she were as smart as she thinks she is she should have been able to get her point across in fewer words. It is no wonder that it took so long to find a publisher who would take a chance.

The book seems to spend the majority of time defending the author?s fear of religion. Apparently, the only evil is religion disguised as mediocrity. Is it good to be an individual? Yes. Do you need 30 plus hours to explore this? No

Are there good philosophical questions in the book? I think so. I did get some things out of it. The book was not boring. It flowed well.

This has to be one of the most memorable books I have listened to. Hurt is good King is good. I probably liked King better....It's his story.

Good. The narrator makes the book. A little hard to follow driving in traffic but you can always listen to it again.

Predictable formula.

It is hard for me to think of many books that I will keep with me in my daily life as much as this one. I'm amazed that if you keep the time and context in mind, how much you can take forward into today. This is the begining of so many trends that we are now living.

I think everyone who reads this book will get something a little different out of it. If you reread it every 5 years or so, as you go through college or have children or become part of the "establishment" you will find you are pulling different things out with each read.

Classic Adams. Extremely funny. Laughed out loud driving down the highway.
