This has been one of my favorite novels for well over a decade, and I was delighted to find it here. It is by far the funniest novel D.E. Stevenson ever wrote--and one of her best. We all have a Miss Buncle in our life, someone we take for granted like a piece of the living room furniture but whom we don't really know or appreciate. Miss Buncle's runaway best seller causes endless problems in her hitherto quiet life, and they're all funny.
I can't recommend this book enough, and the narrator is just right for it.

This is one of the best books of adult Christian fiction I've read in many years. After I read/inhaled it the first time, I bought this audio version and over the past few years have listened to it twice. The writing is rich and the narration a great fit.

I live near the area where the story is supposed to have taken place. Linda Nichols captured the setting truly and beautifully.

All I knew about Julia Child came from the movie Julie and Julia and from Julia Child's wonderful memoir, My Life in France. I was a little daunted by the length of this book and also some of the reviews, but it was a truly well-written biography and well worth the time spent listening. I was fascinated by the behind the scenes of making the television shows, and by all the work involved in producing *all* the books, not just Mastering the Art of French Cooking. The narrator was superb.

I just finished listening to this last week. I loved, loved it. It's a very romantic story--a bit over the top in some ways--but lovely nontheless. It might not have been meant to be allegorical, but I think you can also read it that way. My second time through I found myself retelling this story with God as the Harvester and me as Ruth.
As another reviewer commented, the production quality is not that great. Several times I heard pages turning--which I don't think I've ever heard on a professional recording before. And Mary Starkey is not very expressive. But still, don't let that stop you from trying this wonderful story. By the end of it I really liked Mary's voice, and I'll be downloading Freckles (also read by her) next month. I've already listened to most of this book twice, and I think it's one I'll return to again and again.

Amberwell is my favorite of D.E. Stevenson's novels. I have read it over and over and I'm thrilled to be able to listen now, too.
Please, please, Audible, offer us more of this author's books! I would absolutely love to see Miss Buncle's Book or Celia's House here, among others.
