When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

    decently spent

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

wish the ending had more redeeming qualities

What about Tom Hollander’s performance did you like?

    he was very good

Do you think The Casual Vacancy needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

no, because we know what happens to the most interesting characters.

    Any additional comments?

I neither loved nor hated this book. I had not read Rowling before so I had no expectations. Was A decent story-slightly depressing. I found myself hoping agaist hope that some of the characters would overcome the odds. I do not feel that I wasted my credit.
