"Not worth 9.95"
After listening to this book, I am sure the author John Grisham is the type of man that would offer a child a ice cream cone, then he would smash it on the ground, laughing when the child started to cry. I thought I was getting a good deal at $9.95. What a waste of money and time. Grisham paints a picture of the american public as mindless, worthless, clueless dolts, controled by the rich. This book is my last John Grisham book. Do yourself a favor and pass this one up!
"Glossed over vanilla story."
I can not give more than a 2 star rating for this book. I can tell you from my own experiences that the Despicable White Trash that permeated the south in the 50's and 60's and to some extent today were lower than low WHITE TRASH!!!! I was ashamed to be white. The whites that lived outside of Fort Polk La., were not just ignorant they were down right mean spirited and self aggrandizing bigots!!!! I was a Sergeant in the US Army stationed in Louisiana. A Black Sergeant that worked beside me was living in a shack in what was the "colored" section of town. He never complained to me. I realized how he and his family were forced to live, when I was told to pick him up on his day off. I was so ashamed of how he and his fine family were forced to live. This book only touched on the shameful way the white trash house wives and their husbands treated the blacks. If anything they were portrayed as respectful citizens of Jacksonville, instead of the bigoted trash they were! This story was a very Plain Jane story with no real truth or no ending. Nazi Germany's treatment of the Jews was not very different
"Lot of fun"
This was a very enjoyable 8 hours of listening. I found myself smiling to myself and felling better about the day while I listned to this book. The story and mystery was good but the reader and the pros were outstanding. I hope audible has more from this author and reader!
"Outstanding listen"
This first book of a trilogy, was as good or better than any book/books I have listned to out of the more than 120 books I have downloaded through Audible. Out of all the reviews not one listed all three books and in the order they were written. All are avialible through Aubible. This trilogy of novels contains "The Potato Factory", "Tommo & Hawk" and "Solomon's Song". In that order. Another book by the same author "Brother Fish" was outstanding. Maybe a tad better (if that is possible) than the aforementioned Trilogy.
"Goes nowhere"
This is one of the few audio books in the three years I have been a member that I wanted to turn off and dump. There was no ending, it just stoped in the middle of nowhere. I kept thinking there has to be more to this story. It was read very well. I give five stars to the reader. It was like hearing someone reading an encyclopedia that went nowhere. Do not waste your credit or time on this book
