Does it ever have to end? The narration and story line is superb, entertaining and page turning. Each character in the book is depicted with style, purpose and motivation.
Now, I'm moving on to the next review of Book 3 which, by the way shall be extremely positive.
This book is not only informative, it is enlightening. We are so trapped by our cultural believes that we fall asleep, forgetting that we have a choice to be happy, healthier and free from societal dictations. This is not a spiritual journey but a scientific one from a man who has studied other cultures and what makes people healthy and/or sick.
This series only gets better and better. I absolutely love the characters, the way the author describes the characters and the story. Kristine Hyam is an excellent narrator and I must say, actress. She knows how to do dialect and character voices.
I give this book my top rating. It was enjoyable to again, enjoy an audio book from beginning to end.
I could barely put this audio book down. I love Helene Wecker's writing and imagination. Wow! I believe she's right up there with Brian Sanderson and yes, MIchael J. Sullivan. Did I mention how much I loved this book? Yes, I guess I did. If you love fantasy and are looking for something different with a rich characters and a great storyline, this is it.
I truly enjoyed this book and as usual both author and narrator came through, wonderfully. I love the way Jim Butcher delves into his characters so that we understand the motivations for the decisions that Dresden makes. I always look forward to these books and am never, ever disappointed.
It's not that the narrators were bad, it's just that the choices of whoever directed this audio book I beliee, made not so good production decisions. Imagine the voice of a young, early twenties character in the book sounding like an older, seasoned actor over fifty. It doesn't mean the narrator has to be old but at least they can sound younger. Also think of a book narrated in first person by each actor playing their role, male and female. Then when the narration turns to the woman's point of view, that same woman narrates the male character, you know the one in his early twenties who sounds over fifty, in a lower octive voice. If this sounds confusing, so was the narration and performance.
A note to the author, please make sure you listen to who narrates your book. It truly makes a difference. Because of the confusing narration in two, make that three voices, I couldn't finish what was probably a good book. Maybe, I"ll read it, maybe.
I absolutely love Michael J. Sullivan's writing. Tim Gerard Reynold's narration is perfect. He's is talented with the ability to make you hear each character's personality be them man or woman. I love the thieves and hope to hear another book from Michael J. Sullivan again. He is my favorite fantasy author. Thank you, Audible. I got the first sample of his writing through one of your Daily Deals and from there, kept buying.
That in itself is a great accomplishment. However, I didn't like the novel nor could I finish it. I honestly hope, if Connie Suttle writes another novel, the writing is on point as well as the narration.
Will not finish the book nor will I buy anything else by this author. The characters are cliche and the dialogue predictable. I will not even finish this book.
I truly liked this audio book. It kind of had a little bit of a Jim Butcher, Dresden files flavor to it. The characters were clear, interesting and the narrator good. I truly hope this author takes off more than what I've read about on the internet. He's really a good writer.
I truly like this series and happened to buy the prequel on an Audible Daily Deal day. The characters are funny and charming. Imagine, thieves being charming?
Love this series.
