Based on many of the reviews, I thought this would be a good book. Argh. Even on double time, I could hardly wait for the book to end. Honestly, there were times I thought I had missed whole sections. Disjointed, uninteresting, etc., etc. Not worth your time or money. I was in the USSR soon after the Chernobyl disaster (there were no vegetables except cucumbers - I've never forgotten) so I thought that would hold additional interest for me...but no. Sorry to bag on this book, but it's not a good one.

WOW! My first Erik Larson book and definitely not my last. I only wish Scott Brick was the narrator for the one I just bought. From the first sentence through the last one, I was completely taken in by this story and this performance. I learned so much and I enjoyed every second of it. I can't even think of a book that was as "perfect" (I hate to use that word) as this one and definitely better to listen because of Scott Brick than it would have been if I had read it. It sounds like a novel but of course, it's true, which made it even more exciting. Loved it!!

Normally I don't review before I finish a book but I could not bring myself to listen to any more of it. The narrator doesn't help this book at all. And it needs a lot of help. The characters are disconnected. The plot is disconnected (or maybe it pulls together at some point but I never got there). Supposedly this is part of a three-part series, but it's the only one from the series I'll be accessing.

The reviews are all over the place. There are people who love it (and I'm glad for them) but it was not worth listening to and I wasn't going to waste time on the second half. There are hundreds of thousands of good books. I've switched over to one of those now.

I love Sara Peretsky's books and for some reason, have had this one on my iPhone for a long time and FINALLY listened. It was great! The only reason I didn't rate it 5/5 on everything was some of it was a little far-fetched, but I still loved the book. Interesting and clever and I thoroughly enjoyed the listen. You'll be happy you bought it or used one of your credits.

This one was one of those books that made me want to listen instead of doing anything else! I started it just before a 4-day trip and was happy to stand in lines at airports because it gave me time to listen. Very intriguing and cleverly plotted. Original in so many ways. Loved the characters and am looking forward to Lisa Gardner's next book. The narrator was outstanding! SO many different voices and she made the story that much more interesting.

I'm a HUGE Harlan Coben fan so I buy all of his books. This one, narrated fabulously by Scott Brick, will definitely hold your interest. Plenty of it is far-fetched, but that's OK. It's fiction.

The story was good and I wish I had read the book. The narrator was in such a hurry and he didn't vary the voices or the narrated portions at all. I can't remember the last audio book that was this poorly narrated. I'm spoiled by all the other great narrators and I'll remember to avoid ones Rob Patterson does unless he improves. The story was pretty good, however.

Scott Brick is fabulous and spoils you, as far as what you expect from narrators. He kept the book moving along. The premise and portions of the plot are interesting and yet it is so far fetched that I certainly wouldn't rate this as a 5-star book. 3 1/2 is where I wanted to put my rating.

It's worth a credit and I'll be hopeful that Meltzer's next book is better. He has a lot of talent.

Oh, brother. I forced myself to wait 'til the end of this book to write a review. I kept hoping it would get better and it never did. I have read or listened to many of Kay Hooper's books and have enjoyed them all. This one was ridiculous and I think the narrator made it worse. I don't want to just beat up on the narrator or the story, but I would highly recommend you go find one of Hooper's early books/series and listen to that one. And definitely make sure they are narrated by someone else. If there are more in this series (since Hooper tends to write in groups), I won't buy them, that is for sure.

I am a HUGE fan of Preston & Child and their Pendergast series. I finished this one only because I am such a big fan and Rene Auberjonois is such a master narrator. I will certainly buy the next book in the series - but if it is as far off the mark as this one is, it will be my last. The reviews on this book, which I read the other day, long after I'd purchased mine since I had it on auto-purchase, were clearly wildly mixed. Some love it and others are feeling like I do - pretty disappointed. I won't go into all the craziness that was in this book, but suffice it to say that it didn't live up to everyone's expectations for what we want from our favorite FBI agent (and those who write about him).

I've read or listened to all of the Harry Bosch stories (and I miss Dick Hill). This one held my interest and was worth the time - and it wasn't the very best in the series. Don't start with this one. Go back if you haven't already learned all about Harry.
