A long-buried family secret resurfaces when one of Aloysius Pendergast's most implacable enemies shows up on his doorstep as a murdered corpse. The mystery has all the hallmarks of the perfect murder, save for an enigmatic clue: a piece of turquoise lodged in the stomach of the deceased. The gem leads Pendergast to an abandoned mine on the shore of California's desolate Salton Sea, which in turn propels him on a journey of discovery deep into his family's sinister past.

YES! Very glad that the authors have re-found the magic of Agent Pendergast. I have read or listened to every one of these books and the last couple were lacking, but now...I think they are back in the swing. Very good. Love the connections and continued mystery behind past and present.

Keep it coming Preston & Child! Thank you!

I bought this one over 6 months before I listened to it and I once I started, I wish I had listened immediately. Every part of this book was excellent and from the reviews, the next book is one to read not listen to and I'm VERY SAD that they didn't continue with the same narrator. She was superb.

Just an incredible book from start to finish and I'm actually glad I didn't realize/remember that this was written under a pen name. After listening - I will be looking for all the books in this series and am downloading the next one as soon as I finish this review. Characters were interesting and layered and the narrator - WOW! Perfect. Just perfect. THANK YOU for continuing to write. It shows that writing when you have this kind of talent has nothing to do with how much money you have - it has to do with the fact that you have stories to tell and you can't wait to do the work (hard work) to be able to tell them!

In the LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit, not many murder victims die almost a decade after the crime. So when a man succumbs to complications from being shot by a stray bullet nine years earlier, Bosch catches a case in which the body is still fresh, but all other evidence is virtually nonexistent. Now Bosch and rookie Detective Lucia Soto, are tasked with solving what turns out to be a highly charged, politically sensitive case.

The book was potentially a good one although not the best of the series. Titus Welliver - holy crap. Maybe he's a good actor (I have no idea), but his narration was horrible. Where, oh where, was Dick Hill? Or really, anyone else? I listened to the entire book on double time.

Forty years’ accumulation of art, antiques, and family photographs are more than just objects for Stanley Peke - they are proof of a life fully lived. A life he could have easily lost long ago. When a con man steals his houseful of possessions in a sophisticated moving-day scam, Peke wanders helplessly through his empty New England home, inevitably reminded of another helpless time: decades in Peke’s past, a cold and threadbare Stanislaw Shmuel Pecoskowitz eked out a desperate existence in the war-torn Polish countryside, subsisting on scraps, dodging Nazi soldiers.

Oh, my goodness. This was a fascinating book, even though it wasn't what I expected. To have such a personality-driven and layered book makes this one stand out. Christopher Lane did an excellent job with the narration. Because it was slow, which was appropriate, in its delivery, I ended up moving it to double-time on my iPhone. I would recommend this because of how you'll be surprised.
