What wouldn't? Some action maybe. For better parts of the book nothing happens at all. I was just waiting for something to happen, but no. The outcome was as predicted as well, no news there. She chose the one I knew she'd choose, and all was well in the world. I can't believe that a trilogy with such a promising start had such an incredibly boring ending. The entire book lacks inspiration.

Hmm.. maybe? I loved the first book in this trilogy, so why not?

All the narrators read in monotone voices, so that the already boring story got even more boring and tedious.

Jack, without a doubt. I found Evie to be a bit silly and boring in the beginning, but she got better as the story progressed.

Okay, so I love Precious and her little detective agency. I never thought I would. THe reason why I've given this such a low score is because it is abrigded. By doing this, they totally wreck the book. The good thing about the story is all of Mma Ramotswe's own thoughts and the way she herself tells the story. By just summing it up for the reader, well, let's put it this way: I will never buy an abrigded version again. I don't even know why they would do that to good books....

I don't know. People who like to listen to a bad French accent?

I couldn't get into it. The start dragged and dragged. I tried several times, but I just didn't like the story. And the really bad narration didn't help.

Disappointment, boredom

Of course! I really loved it. I think it is interesting to read a book that is set in Mussolini's Italy and the characters and their relationships between them is beautifully described. I was sad when the book ended.

I liked that it was set in Italy before and during the war. I am a history teacher, and thus very interested in history. This story told about an era that has been described in many books, but I have never read one from Mussolini's Italy.

Yes! More than one, but I can't reveal them because it would reveal too much of the story and parts of the ending. But this is a story set in times of war, and many of the main characters are partisans. It goes without saying that they experience both dramatic and sad moments.

Yes, I would because it is a good story about a time and place in history few of my friends know little about. I loved how we get carried into te history of the Spanish civil war in all its grusomeness.

The author's formidable knowledge of history, and her ability to tell it in an interesting way. I also loved her way of describing the family relations, and I loved how all the little mysteries all comes together in the end.

I like that she manages to keep the story interesting!

It reminds me a lot of Dan Brown's novels, especially "The Da Vinci Code" as it takes a story that already exists and weaves it into a new setting. In "The Da-Vinci Code" it was the Bible and in this book it is Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. I really liked how the author has created this whole new story based om the original one.

No, I don't think so. This was my first Cathy Kelly book and it was too light for my taste. The characters were not given any space to truly evolve, and they came out flat and boring. The story was predictable and a bit hard to engage in.

No, not at all, but the thing about this light chicklit books is that they have to be well-written and hva interesting, loveable characters, something this book is sorely missing.

It is OK as a light read, as background noise to make housework more enjoyable, but don't expect too much of the story or the characters.

I really enjoyed this story, especially the bits about Beattie. It reminds me a lot of Tamara McKinley's book, of whoch I have read quite a few and enjoyed every one of them. I love how the author manages to capture the time and the enviroment in the Australian outback. Tha narrator does a decent job in some parts of the book. But she really can't speak Scottish. She manages to make all the Scottish-speaking people sound retarded and slow. Why bother? If you can't make it properly, don't try at all! This ruins part of the experience for me since my favourite part of the book is about the Scottish Beattie. So to sum it up: Good story, beautifully written, but I wasn't too pleased with the narrator.

I liked how the characters are described and how their lives and their fates are described. It is, however, quite unlikely how all their fates and lives weaves together in the end. It kind of ruined the story a little for me.

By that time I was already a bit disappointed by all the unlikely events and relations and the ending was just an expansion of this.

The accents!! I hate it when English-native narrators tries to do accents to show that the characters speak a different language. You are not good at it, you never manage to nail the accents and it just sound stupid.
