Book 8 in the TimeRider series sets the reader up for Scarrow's final chapter/book due out in late 2014. Here's hoping that Audible will be able to secure the rights to publish it.

When I read the printed edition of this book, I skimmed a lot. I am not a big fan of Roman history and I couldn't stay interested in it, but LISTENING to the story was so much better! Trevor White is such a great actor/reader that I was ready to hear the story and was able to catch many clues about the past and future books that I missed in the first read.

I love American history and time travel stories so this book gave me both. The TimeRiders have a problem on their hands when young Abe Lincoln gets curious when he see some strangers and ends up in 2001! They have to find a way to get him back to his own time period so he can become president and stop The Eternal War.

I chose this book because one of my students was reading the book and needed some help understanding it since English isn't her first language. I am so pleased that I did! It was a terrific book that kept me engrossed all the way through it. I could relate to it on many levels. I was a teenager during the American Civil Rights Movement. I could remember the Black Panther Movement. I was reminded of the IRA in Ireland. Now living in Australia I could see a relationship with the struggles of the Koorie population.
I am recommending this book to be put on our Year 10 reading list! I can see lots of discussions with the students.
My one annoyance is that the rest of the series is only available in abridged versions. The first book ended in such a way that I wanted to get right into the next book. Looks like I will have to buy the printed or e-book versions.

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Book One in the TimeRiders series, read by Trevor White. Liam O'Connor should have died at sea in 1912. Maddy Carter should have died on a plane in 2010. Sal Vikram should have died in a fire in 2029. Yet moments before death, someone mysteriously appeared and said, "Take my hand..." But Liam, Maddy and Sal aren't rescued. They are recruited by an agency that no one knows exists, with only one purpose - to fix broken history.

Being a time travel fan, I have really enjoyed this series by Alex Scarrow and have read all of the published ones and am "patiently" waiting for his final installment. Because I will be using the first in the series as a class text for my English class I decided I had better revisit it and listening is the easiest and quickest way for me.
I was not disappointed! Trevor White did a wonder reading and I am pleased to see that he has continued with the rest of the series. It is quite interesting to hear someone read a book that you have already read for the reader often picks up different things that you missed. Trevor also is quite good with his accents. I particularly enjoyed Bob's voice. Looks like I will be using more of my credits to complete the series!

As he walks around, Emma looks up and realises it's the man from the plane.

Although I enjoyed the book, I didn't fall in love with Emma, like I did with Becky in the Shopaholic series.
I finished the book this morning and already I can't remember the name of Emma's boyfriend. I didn't like him and can't understand why he acted the way he did.

If you want a fun, laugh-out-loud book, this is the book for you! Very hard to stop listening to it when you arrive at work and have to get out of the car. Also, although you want to get to the end of the book to see how Becky will get out of the messes she gets into, you are sad when you reach the end.
I have loved all of the Shopaholic books and Mini Shopaholic didn't disappoint me a bit, and as usual, Emily Gray did a superb reading of the book. I can't imagine Becky's voice any other way!
I love Becky but as always, there are times when I want to slap her to get her to wise-up, but that's just her lovable, frustrating self.
The only disappointment I had with this book, is that it seems to be the last in the series. I have written on Sophie's Facebook page about this, so I am hoping that she writes some more.

I can understand why JK decided to write it under a pseudo name, but if I hadn't known it was her I probably wouldn't have picked it up for quite awhile, but I am glad that I did! I really enjoyed it and look forward to more in the series. It kept me guessing and wondering all the time.

I would have given it 5 stars all around, except for the language. Although it was used in context of the characters, because I don't speak like that, it could be a bit jarring at times.Thankfully it wasn't over the top or used excessively. (And Strike even apologizes for it! :-) )

    Story

Unless you really enjoy reading French or Church history, or philosophy or understand French or Latin, I would recommend that you listen to the abridged version of this classic. I would say that over half of the book covered the above and it was frustrating listening to so much of those things and not the actual story and would often zone out until I heard a character's name. I ended up listening to the second half of the book in double speed. It was amazing how I got used to that speed.

Having said all that, I am pleased that I finished the book. I now have a better understanding of the story and the characters and look forward to re-watching the musical again.

Frederick Davidson was a wonderful reader and would have no qualms listening to his voice again.
