"FANTASTIC!!!!"
This is probably the BEST audiobook I have ever listened to. The story is fantastic and the NARRATION by Simon Jones sets the standard for all others to be judged against. I probably have 100 audiobooks in my collection and you quickly learn to follow the NARRATOR almost as much if not more than the author. Simon Jones is the best I have heard so far. In this trilogy Jonathan Stroud gives Simon Jones a fantastic story to bring to life....I just can't say enough about the story or the narrator....
"Great Story the narration could be better."
I think I just said all I need to say but I will explain....I did not care for the narrator at all. I am spoiled, once you listen to The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud but NARRATED by Simon Jones nothing comes close..My wife, 8 year old boy and I go to bed every night listening to stories. I was really looking forward to this based on the reviews....I was disappointed, it wasn't the story it was the narration a lot of it is just over the top.
"Great"
The entire series is great....it is well read and one of those stories you wish would keep going.
"Not as good"
In general I think writers should avoid Time Paradoxes, I love the Artemis Fowl series but I didn't find this book nearly as good as the others. The thing that turned me off right away was that the narrator changed. The original narrator, Nathaniel Parker WAS INCREDIBLE!!! After a few books you know how each of the characters sound. This book changed narrators and it just didn't sound or feel the same. Neither the story nor the narration were up to par. I listen to lots and lots of audiobooks, after a short time there are two things you MUST have, a good story and a good narrator. The Time Paradox is neither. The narrator for this book, Enn Reite, just didn't work for me. I don't know if Eoin Colfer was trying to save a few bucks or what, but in my view it was a huge mistake. I don't know if there going to be another book in this series but at the *very least* Eoin Colfer better get Nathaniel Parker back or I'm done. The NARRATOR is THAT important to the story. Who in there right mind would switch narrators after FIVE BOOKS....
