Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

    Joseph says: "A storyteller's story"
    "Good at the first glance"
    Overall

The story is well-told and the writing style is good. However, at the end of listening, you know that it is just a STORY, and nothing more. There are a significant number of holes if one muses for a while. For example, the father not giving Hussein the most important gift - education; the quick transition from a person who has neither courage nor a sense of fairness to a super-hero... Thus, the book seems contrived and artificial, like a Chinese dish with too much MSG.

John-Mark Stensvaag says: "Splendid Novel, Splendid Reading"
    "An imperfect classic"
    Overall

I really enjoyed listening to War and Peace. Zimmerman's reading, though not as dynamic as Alexander Spencer's, was good in the sense that a good French accent could be counted on when the occasion arose. The writing was fantastic, and could be called flawless save for the unsatisfactory ending where the author's philosophical views were repeated in a million different ways.
