    One of Stephen King's longest novels (a mere 26 pages shorter than the uncut version of The Stand), "IT", is a prime example of what makes King a great writer. The theme of horror merely serves as a framework for what really matters -- the characters and the town and events that shape their personalities and relationships.

    The narrator, Steven Weber, does an excellent job.

    With the compelling story and great narration, "IT" will keep you engaged for (literally - at over 44 hours) days.

    Why we think it’s a great listen: You may have thought the movie was scary, but this is pure Stephen King as it was meant to be experience – performed frighteningly well by Campbell Scott. First published in 1977, The Shining quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed.

    Unfortunately the narrator sounds like he's DJ'ing late night smooth jazz. Don't get me wrong - he has a great voice, I wish my monotone was half that good, but it does take away from the story.

    As far as story - it is classic King - a must read.
