Amelia Peabody embarks on her first Egyptian adventure armed with unshakable self-confidence, a journal for her thoughts, and, of course, a sturdy umbrella. On her way, she rescues Evelyn Barton-Forbes, who has been "ruined" and abandoned on the streets of Rome by her lover. With a typical disregard for convention, Amelia promptly hires her fellow countrywoman as a companion and takes her to Cairo, where strange visitations and a botched kidnapping convince Amelia that there is a plot afoot to harm Evelyn.

I only recently discovered Elizabeth Peter's and her quirky heroine, Amelia Peabody. I loved this book! I especially like the narrator, as her voice so fits how I envisioned Amelia's voice to sound like. I like her inflection. My hubby even enjoyed listening to this book with me on a trip. This is definitely one I'll listen to again and again.

Alexander Kinloch, artist, has worked out a good pattern for his life. His home is a small bothy on a remote mountain in Scotland; he paints on commission, from which he derives both pleasure and a decent income; he lives alone and likes it. One day, however, Alexander's peace is violently shattered when he returns home to find a group of strangers waiting for him. Afer a scuffle, he is left for dead with only the wind and the words "Where is it?" ringing in his ears.

Where does To the Hilt rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a favorite Dick Francis book. Racing is very peripheral, and I really liked Alexander Kinloch. This is the 2nd Dick Francis book with an artist as the main character. At times I wanted to just smack his step-sister, Pamela, but overall, loved how the story unfolded and enjoyed the unorthodox detective Alexander hired to help him figure out what was going on. This is a book I read or listen to once or twice a year.

What does Tony Britton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoy his use of different accents and just overall, find his voice a great one to listen to!

Garlic and Sapphires is Ruth Reichl's riotous account of the many disguises she employs to dine anonymously. There is her stint as Molly Hollis, a frumpy blond with manicured nails and an off-beige Armani suit that Ruth takes on when reviewing Le Cirque. The result: her famous double review of the restaurant: first she ate there as Molly; and then as she was coddled and pampered on her visit there as Ruth, New York Times food critic.

I really enjoyed this book! I was skeptical at first if I'd be able to finish it, but it was not just facts about how to be a food critic, but a truly engaging story that I loved. I was disappointed when it came to an end. My Mom also has listened to this book, and enjoyed it as much as I did. I want more adventures! I also enjoyed the narrator's reading, she did a masterful job, and helped pull me in as well.

Malcolm Pembroke never expected to make a million pounds without making enemies. Nor did he expect his latest wife to be brutally murdered. All the clues suggest the killer comes from close to home, but after five marriages and nine children, that still leaves the field wide open. When he find his own life in danger, Pembroke entrusts his safety to his estranged son, Ian, an amateur jockey; and through him discovers a compulsive new outlet for his financial expertise.

I'm a Dick Francis Fan, so seeing so many more added to the store has just made me so happy! This title I hadn't read until just last month, so seeing Audible has it, was great! I love Tony Britton's voice, and this story, while not completely on a racing incident, had racing peripherally in the story line. I loved the story of Ian reconciling with his father, and then learning about his zany family added to this one's charm. As to who was trying to kill Ian's father, it had me guessing til the end. For one to enjoy cuddled up maybe even with a friend, you can't go wrong with this book!

This first installment of a cozy mystery series transports listeners back to the bygone era of 1923 Britain, where unflappable flapper and fledgling journalist Daisy Dalrymple daringly embarks on her first writing assignment, and promptly stumbles across a corpse.

I just discovered this fun series this past winter. I actually started with one of the later ones in the series and fell in love with Daisy Dalrymple! This series, set in the 20's reminds me a bit of the Jeeves and Wooster books, which I also love. The "By Jingo's," "Old Bean" and other such expressions make this a very enjoyable listen! This book is just introducing all the characters and each successive book adds more details, so you keep wanting more of Daisy's exploits. So far Blackstone Audio has agreed to do the first 4 in this series, and I hope they decide to do all of them. For a great change of pace in your listening routine, you won't go wrong with this book! Sit back, relax, and meet the irrepresible Daisy and all her chums.

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle lives in an upside-down house and smells like cookies. She was even married to a pirate once. Most of all, she knows everything about children. She can cure them of any ailment. Patsy hates baths. Hubert never puts anything away. Allen eats v-e-r-y slowly. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle has a treatment for all of them.

I remember reading this when I was young and have enjoyed sharing it with kids as I've gotten older. Who can resist Mrs. Piggle Wiggle? She's the "fairy godmother" all kids dream of at one time or other. Who would love going to an upside down house where you can hunt for treasure, bake cookies, or do any of the other delightful things the kids do at Mrs. Piggle Wiggle's. Would be great for a family road trip!

Charles Todd is an English artist who is well known and respected for his renderings of sleek and athletic horses. What he now faces at his cousin Donald's house is also art - the art of a perfectly brutal murderer. Donald's home has been burglarized and his wife, Regina, is lying on her back dead, her face the color of cream. Donald is shattered, shocked, and a prime suspect.

Another great Dick Francis book and wonderfully read by Goffrey Howard. Here we have art mixed in with the horse world. While not really centered on racing this time, this is about Charles Todd, an artist, whose speciality is painting horses. He gets caught up in trying to unravel a mystery revolving around famous works of art of horses. Again, several places were very tense, wondering if he was going to emerge with his skin in tact! :-) This is a solid story with several twists along the way to make it even more fun. You won't regret listening to this one!

When English agent Gene Hawkins told his boss he'd forego his vacation to search for millionaire Dave Teller's prized missing stallion, he didn't know his retainer would include the attention of his boss's beautiful teenage daughter - or Teller's seldom sober wife. He also didn't know that a trail from London to New York to Las Vegas to California would lead eventually to murder.

This is another great listen from Dick Francis and read really well by Geoffrey Howard. This book ranges from England to the United States and back again. This one really kept me riveted and in a couple tight spots the main character got himself in, kept me seated in my car until he got himself out again! For a book you'll want to listen to over and over, this is a good choice!

Jockey Kelly Hughes and trainer Dexter Cranfield have been barred from racing - a devastating event for them both. The charge at the secret enquiry? Throwing a race for personal profit. It is a vicious frame-up and, worse, they have nowhere to turn to clear their names. Still Hughes refuses to take the phony verdict lying down - even though his personal enquiry might have him lying down permanently...

I'm relatively new to Dick Francis, and really love listening to his books. I especially like how Geoffrey Howard reads the books. I will definitely look for more books narrated by him! I enjoyed this book very much and while it is true because it's about an "Enquiry," so not as centered on horses per say, I really enjoyed the building of the case and how Kelly Hughes figured out who was behind his being barred from racing, and how he went about getting his reputation restored. This is a winner!

While in Paris on business, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, a baffling cipher found near the body. As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist, Sophie Neveu, sort through the bizarre riddle, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Da Vinci, clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

My husband and I and a friend listened to this book on a trip to Oregon. We all enjoyed the book until the end....what happened? It led up to the climactic end and then fizzled out. There were some very tense parts, which made us all stay in the car after reaching our destination. I also could have done without the bad language. We all enjoyed the narrator. Mixed reviews if we'd ever listen to it again. So, go in knowing the ending was weak and you can enjoy the rest of the story.

What a fun twist on the Cinderella Story. I really enjoyed the reader of this book, and thought she did such a great job with all the different people in this book. Her reading draws you into the story and makes you sorry when it comes to an end. For an enchanting story that will take you away from the stresses of the world, look no further! It would be even more enjoyable to listen to with your favorite princess!
