MacKayla Lane's life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she's your perfectly ordinary 21st-century woman. Or so she thinks...until something extraordinary happens.

    "Narration ruins it."
    Overall

I may have liked this book more if I had read it rather than listened to it. The narrator sounds much older than the protagonist and the southern accent in unbearable. That being said by a Southern girl. The writer takes a while to develop the main character with lackluster results. The heroine's personality seems to be modeled after Sookie Stackhouse of The Southern Vampire Series by Charlaine Harris. This is like trying to turn Andy Griffith into Elvis. The sound quality was poor and depressive. May read the next book, may not. Blah....

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership. In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires?

"Major fan of Sookie looking for a new series"
    Overall

I was looking for a new series because I can almost quote my old favorites. I am a big fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series so much that I went on to read everything ever written by Charlaine Harris. I honestly had low expectations of the Night Huntress Series but I was VERY pleasantly surprised. I love the relationships between the characters, Cat and Bones. (Bones reminds me of Spike from the Buffy TV shows.) The narration is very good and I bought the next 3 audiobooks within 3 days. I hate to say it but Cat makes Sookie look like a whiner and the heat between Cat and Bones rivals anything on True Blood (the HBO series based on Sookie Stackhouse books.) You get invested in Cat as the protagonist and fall in love with Bones for his tenderness and absolute devotion. This series is not all hugs and kisses though. Cat and Bones can kick some serious butt.
