Pawleys Island, South Carolina. Sunny, idyllic, and picture-perfect, until a tabloid news program airs a splashy segment about the community's only unsolved murder - the grisly stabbing of teenager Tara Mitchell and the subsequent disappearance of her two best friends, now thought to be long dead. In the years since the murders, several families have moved into the mansion where the crime occurred, each claiming that the dead girls still haunt the house.

This was an excellent book. I usually listen to authors, Tess Gerritsen, Nora Roberts, Tami Hoag, Lisa Jackson, J. T. Ellison, J.D. Robb, Lisa Gardner and more, but have never listened to Karen Robards.
Unlike a lot of books which start of slow, this one had my attention from the very beginning. I just did not want to stop listening.
If you like authors such as the ones listed above, you will love this author.

I have listened to numerous suspense books over the years and some have been pretty gory, but this one I had to stop after just an hour of listening.
If you like severe torture in detail then you will like the book.
    For me, it was sick!

Every lawman has enemies, but something about this shooting suggests more than a simple grudge.

I have listened to all of Lisa Jackson's books and like them, except this one. I know all the characters from this series, but couldn't tell who was who or what anyone was doing. I have no idea what the plot of the book was about.
Usually if a book starts off slow, it gets interesting during the 2nd half, but after an hour into the second half and still not being able to figure out what was going on, I downloaded another book and gave up on this one.
I don't know if it was the narrator or if the book was just bad, but it was very bland.

Dr. Charlotte Stone sees what others do not. A sought-after expert in criminal pathology, Charlie regularly sits face-to-face with madmen. Obsessed with learning what makes human monsters commit terrible crimes, Charlie desires little else from life - no doubt because when she was 16, she herself survived a serial killer's bloodbath: A man butchered the family of Charlie's friend, then left the girl's body on a seaside boardwalk one week later. Because of the information Charlie gave police, the Boardwalk Killer went underground.

I like listening to series and I believe this is the 4th or 5th book in this series.
The first few I really enjoyed...
The writer must have had writers block because this was way to far fetched and the focus was ridiculous.
I should have payed attention to other reviewers.

Dr. Samantha Leeds hosts her own late-night radio talk-show on WSLJ. One day she receives a menacing phone call at her home, while miles away, a prostitute is strangled to death. Seemingly unrelated, nobody connects the two events until more murders occur under similar circumstances.

When the skeleton of a young girl, not yet a teenager, is discovered in Acadia, Canada, Tempe Brennan is reminded of Evangelina, her best friend in her preteen years, who was mysteriously taken away when she was 12. Evangelina was from strange and faraway Acadia. She was named after Evangeline in the Longfellow poem, and loved poetry. Tempe found her exotic and glamorous, and then suddenly she was gone, and Tempe was told not to try to find her, that she was "dangerous".

Normally when I listen to books I get captivated and don't want to stop listening. This was not the case with this book. It was just OK.
I like real suspense writers like Tami Hoag, Tess Gerritsenn, J.D. Robb, Lisa Gardner, but unfortunately I have listened to all their books and thought I would give this one a try.
If you like mystery/thrillers/suspense and like to be kept on your toes, you would probably be disappointed in this book.

At the same time she has crafted a work of dazzling storytelling and spine-tingling mystery - as three people, with their own wounds and their own secrets, are all that stand between a madman and his next crime.

The book started out slow, but by the time you got to the 2nd half, I couldn't stop listening to it.
Great characters and the narrator did a good job portraying them.
The only thing that I didn't like was the ending. With all the excitement through the book, the ending seemed flat.

Jo Ellen Hathaway thought she had escaped the house long ago. It was where she spent her loneliest years, after her family was shattered by the sudden, unexplained disappearance of her mother.

But now, the sprawling resort off the coast of Georgia haunts her dreams. Even more haunting are the pictures that someone is sending her - strange close-ups, candid shots, and finally, the most shocking and heartbreaking portrait of all: a photograph of her long-lost mother. . . naked, beautiful, and dead.

    Lajuan says: "Intriguing"

The book started out slow while Nora Roberts builds the characters, but once she is done with character building, it was really good.
Lots of twists and turns, with a little romance.
I would recommend this book to anyone.
