  • The Mayfair Moon: The Darkwoods Trilogy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By J.A. Redmerski
    • Narrated By Kate Reinders

After a nightmarish encounter with a werewolf, 17-year-old Adria Dawson loses her sister, but gains the love of a mysterious young man and his legendary family. Strange and tragic things begin to happen in the small town of Hallowell, Maine: residents come down with an unexplainable 'illness' and some disappear. In the midst of everything, Isaac Mayfair is adamant about keeping Adria safe, even from her sister whom he has warned her to stay away from.

Suzanne Finnegan says: "An average book which would appeal to werewolf fan"
"Hairy twilight teen with excellent vocabulary"
What did you like best about The Mayfair Moon? What did you like least?

The story was entertaining in that bubblegum insomnia, I know what's coming next kind of way. Sometimes it's comforting to know who is who.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Twists, turns. Make the teen talk like a teen. I expect that there needs to be some more interaction between the author and the demographic in order for authenticity. Also, the fact that the step fathe 'didn't hit us' so it wasn't abuse' seemed to be sending mmmmm yes the wrong message.

What didn’t you like about Kate Reinders’s performance?

At the the end of almost every sentence it ended in a lilt. Like a question. Otherwise she did a good job.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Any additional comments?

I did finish the book so there is something to it that kept me listening. The concept is there. Or I'm hooked on the koolaid we all know as the twilight knockoff.

  • Veronica Mars: An Original Mystery by Rob Thomas: The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Rob Thomas, Jennifer Graham
    • Narrated By Kristen Bell
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The first book in an original mystery series featuring 28-year-old Veronica Mars, back in action after the events of Veronica Mars: The Movie. With the help of old friends - Logan Echolls, Mac Mackenzie, Wallace Fennel, and even Dick Casablancas - Veronica is ready to take on Neptune's darkest cases with her trademark sass and smarts.

    Alison says: "Mars Attacks, succeeds!"
    "Give me more Marshmallows!"
Where does Veronica Mars rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have 500+ audiobooks with the whole range: SF, fantasy, YA, fiction, humor, romance, classics, mysteries. You get it. This falls in the top 5%.

We are not talking Nobel prize in literature but dang it's a Rockin great way to but a gut.

The TV show was something that brought me comfort and I could watch it over and over. It was like the weather in Seattle. If you don't like the mystery, humor, witty banter, gumshoe storyline, then just wait 10 minutes and you will be served something new.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes it kept me on the edge of my seat. There were lots of twists ands turns that all tie into the storyline. The supporting cast give you snappy jokes but also feed you hints.

What does Kristen Bell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ahh Ms Bell brings snarky to sarcasm like no one else does. I can't imagine another narrator portraying Veronica Mars besides her. She also does an outstanding job with the other voices wether male or female.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The part that got me was when Wallace picked Veronica up after her neck gets cut and she leans on his shoulder. She says a good friend is one that lets you be vulnerable while not being weak. Or something to that effect.

    Any additional comments?

Veronica rocks- Audible please buy more?

  • When We Wake

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Karen Healey
    • Narrated By Leslie Bellair
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Sixteen-year-old Tegan is just like every other girl living in 2027 - she's happiest when playing the guitar, she's falling in love for the first time, and she's joining her friends to protest the wrongs of the world: environmental collapse, social discrimination, and political injustice. But on what should have been the best day of Tegan's life, she dies - and wakes up a hundred years in the future, locked in a government facility with no idea what happened.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I listened to the audible version and I have to tell you one star is just for the narrator and her great job with the voices and and the Aussie accents. She was wonderful. So in that aspect yes it was time well spent . The author does a good job flushing out the details - great future slangs, her obsession with The Beatles, how religion has and hasn't changed. There is a big swap at the end which seemed a bit rushed. Any book that you learn something from is worth the time u invest.

If you’ve listened to books by Karen Healey before, how does this one compare?

What does Leslie Bellair bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her accent and voices were fabulous. The many cultures that are represented as well as both genders she pulls of great. She helps bring emotion to the characters.

Do you think When We Wake needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It stands alone. I'm tired of trilogies

  • Invasion: A C.H.A.O.S. Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Jon S. Lewis
    • Narrated By John Haag
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

He didn't ask for the job, but now all that stands between us and chaos... is Colt. Colt McAlister was having the summer of his life. He spent his days surfing and his nights playing guitar on the beach with friends. He even met a girl and got his first car. But everything changes when his parents are killed in a freak accident. He’s forced to leave his old life behind and move to Arizona with his grandfather. The only person he knows at the new high school is a childhood friend named Dani.

Joelle says: "What's with the music?"
    "What's with the music?"

This story had an intriguing premise and a fast moving plot that sucked you in BUT whoever decided to add music at the transition of EVERY chapter is daft. Especially, because most chapters are 4- 9 minutes! Over and over again it totally broke the momentum. I liked the characters, interested in the storyline, wanted to find out what happen next if it wasn't for that darn jingle.
