What made the experience of listening to Carrie and Me the most enjoyable?

Learning about the special relationship Carrie and Carol had.

What other book might you compare Carrie and Me to and why?

    none

What about Carol Burnett’s performance did you like?

Her recollections of tender moments, funny moments, and troubled times. My favorite was hearing about the fiasco with the taxi when she was late in her pregnancy.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A celebrity's account of what could be any mother's story.

    Any additional comments?

Something so unique to Audible books...I loved HEARING Carrie's song rather than just seeing in on a page.

Against all logic, he applies and, against all logic, he advances. Fearless and funny, Shubaly is forced to interrogate not just the reality of the show but also his decisions, his addictions, his neuroses, his desires - indeed, his entire reality.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was fine to entertain as I did housecleaning
Being it was short, it was as if I were sitting chatting with friend about his experience.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Nothing. I'm not a "Change the story" kind of person. If I wanted to do that, I'd write my own story. :)

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Nothing. It was fine. The only reason it has a 3 rating is because it was just a fun little chat with not a bunch of substance. Not a bad thing, it's just that I knew what I was getting when I bought it.

What else would you have wanted to know about Mishka Shubaly’s life?

Anything else he was willing to tell. Again, it was his story to tell, not mine to change.

    Any additional comments?

If you want to have a fun chat with a guy friend and you don't have one handy, this book will suffice as a good fill in.

At a high point in his career, Artie Lange performed a sold-out show in Carnegie Hall-and he did it with a pocketful of heroin. In the midst of a deep, self-destructive depression, addicted to heroin, cocaine, and prescription drugs, he lashed out at everyone around him-from his cohosts on The Howard Stern Show to celebrity guests and even his longtime friends. Then came his legendary meltdown on-air, with 6 million people listening, after which Lange pulled himself together enough to go to a buddy's bachelor party in Amsterdam.

What made the experience of listening to Crash and Burn the most enjoyable?

Artie's honesty intertwined with his signature humor

Who was your favorite character and why?

His Mom, sister, and Adrienne. Amazing women.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When he and the young guy were pulled over by cops and left to spend the night in the car. The way Artie tells that scene, I could almost see it as if I were there. Hysterical.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was hard to put down because I could hardly wait to hear what happened next. I was rooting for him at every chapter.

    Any additional comments?

These celebrity "train wreck to sobriety" stories never cease to amaze me. The depths of what people do for drugs is beyond my comprehension. I have two glasses of wine and I worry about dumb things I may have done. I cannot imagine what they live through, by their own admission, by their own choices. It's always great to learn they've beat the demons.

Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like ""Buying the Plot"" and ""Nodding Off,"" Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life, from entertaining his relatives as a kid in Long Beach, Long Island, and his years doing stand-up in the Village, up through his legendary stint at Saturday Night Live, When Harry Met Sally, and his long run as host of the Academy Awards. Listeners get a front-row seat to his one-day career with the New York Yankees (he was the first player to ever ""test positive for Maalox""), his love affair with Sophia Loren, and his enduring friendships with several of his idols, including Mickey Mantle and Muhammad Ali. He lends a light touch to more serious topics like religion (""the aging friends I know have turned to the Holy Trinity: Advil, bourbon, and Prozac""); grandparenting; and, of course, dentistry. As wise and poignant as they are funny, Crystal's reflections are an unforgettable look at an extraordinary life well lived.

What made the experience of listening to Still Foolin' 'Em the most enjoyable?

I loved being able to hear some of his stand up act along with his life story

What did you like best about this story?

The appreciation Billy has for his family, friends and career. No whining, no sob story, just great entertainment.

    Which scene was your favorite?

So many to choose from but one is when he played with the Yankees.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

And he just keeps getting better.

    Any additional comments?

I think I've fallen in love with Billy Crystal as a man, not just an entertainer. His love for his wife is so real and so obvious through this book. And the voices he does - pure entertainment.

In this brave and moving memoir, Corey Feldman is revealing the truth about what his life was like behind the scenes: His is a past that included physical, drug, and sexual abuse, a dysfunctional family from which he was emancipated at age fifteen, three high-profile arrests for drug possession, a nine-month stint in rehab, and a long, slow crawl back to the top of the box office.

Where does Coreyography rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best and quickest "reads" so far

What was one of the most memorable moments of Coreyography?

His crazy mom and his whole childhood

What about Corey Feldman’s performance did you like?

His voices, a great Michael Jackson impersonation and he really brings to life all the characters in his life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Meet the REAL Corey Feldman

    Any additional comments?

I don't care how much his mom denies his story, I believe every word of it because he tells his story with such (seemingly) honest conviction with no "woes me".
I have a whole new respect for Corey Feldman and I hope he has opened the door for more child stars to come forward and tell their stories. It's time to out these awful stage parents and the other animals in the industry who need to be exposed.
    Congrats Corey!

  • Shattered: The True Story of a Mother's Love, a Husband's Betrayal, and a Cold-Blooded Texas Murder

In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron-star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl". The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.

What did you love best about Shattered?

That Belinda was a wonderful young woman and remembered as such by every person involved in this tragic story, even her murderer's family and friends.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shattered?

Quinton's wife's commitment to her friend Belinda, even though they had a little estrangement prior to the murder.

Did Coleen Marlo do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

It was fine. Although I realize it is part of storytelling, I don't care for women trying to sound like a man.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It disgusted me at some points simply for the way sport stars in high school, college, and even pros think they are above the law. Also, I am troubled by the fact of who is now raising Ethan. I was really surprised at that.

    Any additional comments?

While a tragic story, it is a good book.

America’s largest city generates garbage in torrents - 11,000 tons a day on average. But New Yorkers don’t give it much attention. They leave their trash on the curb or drop it in a litter basket, and promptly forget about it. And why not? On a schedule so regular you could almost set your watch by it, someone always comes to take it away.

But who, exactly, is that someone? And why is he - or she - so unknown?

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

It's not the book that I couldn't take - it was the narration

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something similar, just not with this narrator

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her voice was not my taste and her cadence was very distracting for me. I couldn't even hear the story, all I could hear was her talking.

What character would you cut from Picking Up?

    The narrator

    Any additional comments?

Disappointing. I've heard/read similar books about the inside scoop on hotels and restaurants. I really looked forward to enjoying this as much. Unfortunately, I've tried every month or so to listen PAST her voice...I just can't. I give up!

Long before he starred on some of television’s most beloved and long-running series such as Taxi and Who’s the Boss? and went on to distinguish himself in a variety of film and stage roles, Tony Danza was a walking contradiction: an indifferent student who dreamed of being a teacher. Inspiring a classroom of students was an aspiration he put aside for decades until one day it seemed that the most meaningful thing he could do was give his dream a shot. What followed was a year spent teaching 10th-grade English at Northeast High - Philadelphia’s largest high school with 3,600 students....

What made the experience of listening to I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had the most enjoyable?

Hearing Tony talk with that trademark accent. You can just picture him sitting across from you sharing his experience.

What other book might you compare I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had to and why?

None, this was unique because Tony's experience was unique.

Which character – as performed by Tony Danza – was your favorite?

Tony himself. I love the honesty he tells the story with. And I love how he refused to semi-script his reality show, even at the risks that were presented as a result.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laugh at his story telling, I cried with him many times. His soft heart is so admirable!

    Any additional comments?

Anyone who has been in the teaching profession or even knows someone in the teaching profession will love this book. It is so relatable. Plus, who DOESN'T love Tony Danza?!

What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Audible books read by someone with an accent normally distracts me from the story. However, being this was about one of the most famous English people I'm familiar with, her accent kept me in the moment the entire book.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Every John Lennon lover's must see.

    Any additional comments?

It is quite obvious to me how much Cynthia loved John before he became "The Beatles' John Lennon" and beyond.
    Julian's forward was very touching.
    No surprise about Yoko.
The whole book felt to me like it was written with love.
