  • The Wind Through the Keyhole: The Dark Tower

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 29 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Stephen King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In The Wind Through the Keyhole, Stephen King has returned to the rich landscape of Mid-World. This story within a story within a story finds Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, in his early days during the guilt-ridden year following his mother’s death. Sent by his father to investigate evidence of a murderous shape-shifter, a "skin-man", Roland takes charge of Bill Streeter, a brave but terrified boy who is the sole surviving witness to the beast’s most recent slaughter.

Amazon Customer says: "An exceptional story, but I miss George Guidall."
    "Fulfillment of a contract"
What did you like best about The Wind Through the Keyhole? What did you like least?

The story had nothing to do with the Dark Tower other than a mention, a little this and that , then a short story named The Wind Through The Keyhole. After there is a 45 min add for his next book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

As far as the characters go, I think the tiger was the best , laid back and taking it easy, just making the most of the hole in the cage. That was the hidden agenda of this book wasn't it?

What about Stephen King’s performance did you like?

King is a great voice for his work, as the writer he understands the story but his age shows thru in this one. Still I always enjoy his stories more when he reads them.

Was The Wind Through the Keyhole worth the listening time?

The Keyhole was a good listen but the first part and the last could have been cut, this should have been 7hrs not 10

    Any additional comments?

I think there might have been a contract that needed to be filled and this short story was streeeeched to fill it. It could have stood on its' own, as I said about 7hrs worth. This is not one I would spend another credit for, if I wanted an add I could watch T.V.

  • Holding Their Own: A Story of Survival

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Joe Nobody
    • Narrated By D. Allen
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

This first book of the Holding Their Own series, A Story of Survival, is set in the year 2015, when the world is burdened by the second Great Depression. The United States, already weakened by internal strife, becomes the target of an international terror plot. A series of attacks results in thousands of casualties and disables the country's core infrastructure. The combination of economic hardship and the staggering blow of the terror attacks results in a collapse of the government.

Amazon Customer says: "Worst Narrator Ever!!!"
"The worst production I have ever heard"
What would have made Holding Their Own: A Story of Survival better?

I bet that the majority of the people that buy this book will only be able to listen to it for an hour or so, I made it 1hr 22min before I had to shut it off. The problem is not the performance of the actor and the story seems OK as far as I can pay attention. The problem is, instead of saying the chapter number, a very loud tone of 6 notes plays. It is like a bomb going off in your head. I will try and explain my reaction. Think of getting very quiet with some very soft music and just as you start to fall to sleep....BAAAAAH... an air horn goes off next to your ear. That is how it seems, BAAAAAH, every few seconds. It is worse than a water boarding.

    Any additional comments?

I wish I had had enough book to listen to, to hear the chapter change, sad part is you never do know what chapter number it is.

  • Survivors: A Novel of the Coming Collapse

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By James Wesley, Rawles
    • Narrated By Dick Hill
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

America is in the thrall of a full-scale socioeconomic breakdown. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation destroys the value of the dollar, and the population, unprepared for hardship, panics. Practically overnight, the high technology infrastructure and chains of supply collapse and wholesale rioting and looting grip every city. Law enforcement, transportation, electricity, fuel, and medical supplies are all in the past now, as the country staggers beneath its own weight.

    "Patriots, the next chapter"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes,This is a good book, but it is the same story with the same people as Patriots,it's just an in depth back ground on some of the people. I think Rawles may have needed some fast money or had a contract to fill fast. There is nothing new in this book. It would be a great novel if he had taken the two books and put them in the same covers.

Would you ever listen to anything by James Wesley, Rawles again?

Which character – as performed by Dick Hill – was your favorite?

I liked all of them, he did a great job

Did Survivors inspire you to do anything?

    Any additional comments?

As I said it should have been put with Patriots and written like Steven King does, you know real long, in detail so you know the smell of the dust on the lamp, then it would have been a great novel not just a story.

  • Mating Call

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Emily Ryan-Davis
    • Narrated By Isabella Smith
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Cora Phillips has witchcraft in her blood, but she’s convinced she inherited the recessive rather than the dominant trait. Her mother and sister are the real heiresses to the Lune tradition; Cora has neither the interest nor the inclination to take up the Dragonkeeper mantle. Years ago, she left the New York City Witch lifestyle to the other women in her family, and said goodbye to all the velvet and lace.

    "A very hard listen"

I am not sure how the story is, I could only listen to 12 min before I wanted to throw the ipod across the room, just to get this never changing voice out of my ear. I am sure Isabella Smith must be able to do a fine job reading or she would not be doing it. But I guess this had to be the first take and no time to do it over or edit. One voice for all parts. Of over 400 books I have listened to, this is the first one I have left a remark on, it was that bad of a listen. Not the story but the run on sentience. Maybe it is better just to read this book for yourself.

The NIV Audio Bible is more than a Bible you listen to. It's an experience that helps you enter into God's God's Word can enter into you.

Dave says: "Best Version By Far"
    "A listening pleasure"

Having read the Bible for many years, hearing it in story form is a great pleasure. I find this book to be a great comfort at night as I go to sleep the stories easy to listen to over and over again. A great way to learn the Bible and a great entertainment for those just looking for good stories.

  • The Shack

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By Wm. Paul Young
    • Narrated By Roger Mueller

Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare.

Renato says: "much more than I expected"
    "The Shack"

If I were to choose the most moving story I have read , listened to or seen on film, I have to say The Shack has touched me more than all the rest. This book has so moved me that truely, I would give up all my other books to keep this one.
