"Gripping!"
I downloaded this after I read Scott Brick's comments in the "Narrator's Picks". He reads many, many books - many of which I thoroughly enjoy and thought he should know a good book. Does he ever! Edge of the seat doesn't begin to describe this novel. I found myself holding my breath in anticipation and had to stop and take a breather during parts of this story. Great from beginning to end and of course, the narration was first class. I was unfamiliar with Gregg Hurwitz but will definitely be checking out his other books.
"Engineering descriptions boring!"
I thought I could listen to and enjoy almost anything, but the long, endless descriptions of engineering problems of fictional outer space travel almost brought me to my knees! Narrator did a terrific job of what had to be just as boring to narrate. Not the worst but definitely do not recommend.
"Doesn't get any better than this!"
This is my fourth Walt Longmire and fighting for first place. Narration is perfect.
"Excellent!"
Loved this book! I can't believe I just now have discovered Bryce Courtenay. Wonderful plot, characters, descriptions. Listened practically non-stop. Mr. Bower has a great voice and adds to the enjoyment of this terrific story.
Try this!
"Don't miss this!"
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Laughed, cried, worried, celebrated; absolutely loved every word.
Narration could not have been better.
Highly recommend.
"Matthew Corbett is a winner!"
This is my third book by Robert McCammon and the second in the Matthew Corbett series. I liked Matthew in the first of the series and was very pleasantly surprised to find I like him even more in this book. The "good" characters are likeable and the "bad guys" are very bad, indeed, and the plot was engrossing. The history is interesting, there are gruesome crimes, sword fights, plenty of action, wonderful development of relationships with the other characters and thankfully, none of the "gross" language that is so common today. The ending insures I will be listening to the third in this series.
The narration is first class and only adds to the enjoyment.
I highly recommend this series.
"Why did I spend the time listening?"
I never could get into this story. I restarted time and again since I generally love historical novels, but the story just did not have anything I could connect to which is a killer point for me. This might be explained by the fact that it was so difficult to understand when the narrator went from one character to another. I listened until the end, hoping to get involved and was just relieved when it was over.
"Disappointing ending."
I really liked this book up until the science fiction took over. The characters were well developed and likeable, but almost the entire third section was filled with the "other worldly" stuff that keeps me from being a real Stephen King fan. I felt the ending was the weakest part, and by the last page, I really didn't care what happened.
"Wonderful characters!"
Although not a huge science fiction fan, I really enjoyed this book. The premise for the story was quite intriguing, and thankfully allowed plenty of time for fully describing the individuals and their relationships before setting off on the "adventure". This definitely is a character driven story, but it is well balanced with a unique plot and great ending. A real page-turner!
"What a great book!"
Mr. Hart definitely knows how to write a good story! Hooray for all us mystery lovers. Terrific plot, fully defined characters (some to like, some to love, and some to hate) and enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. When I find myself exclaiming "Oh, no!" or some such during the narration, I am really hooked. The main character, while flawed, was engaging and very likeable. I found myself smiling with him, dismayed when he stumbled and in the end, hated to say goodbye.
My narration standards are high. There are many books I would love to get, but I refuse to listen to what I consider a bad narrator more than once. David Chandler definitely goes on my "approved" list. I am from NC and appreciate David Chandler for not having a southern accent. The temptation for many narrators is to go over the top with the drawl, and it truly grates on my southern born and bred ears. The reading speed was excellent, and his voice is pleasant to hear. The narration never interfered with the story which, in my opinion, is the point. No regrets in using this credit!
"Performance a disappointment"
Performance made it very difficult to follow storyline. The transitions from person to person, time and locations, etc. were so unclear that I had to keep backing up in order to make sense of the story.
Reciting lines from the "play"
Sure, maybe it is just this book. I have others that he narrated and enjoyed.
Always ready for another from Reginald Hill.
