Weak story line and even weaker characters. I think Terri Blackstock has lost her touch.
I finished it just to see how predictable it would be and I was spot on. Waste of money and my time listening.
I loved this and was so sad to hear it end! It is difficult to describe, there were times when I felt like I had a handle on where the story line was going, but oh no...Mr. Grisham put a different spin and I found myself in a totally different train of thought! My favorite characters turned out to be the lawyer for Lettie, Judge Atley, Lucian (even though he was a drunk) and Ansel. I can't say much about the actual story without being a spoiler. It's safe to say that I found myself transported to the era when the story took place, feeling empathy for the characters and most importantly being pleasantly surprised with the ending and feeling like I was there!
I can't say enough good about this! Kudo's to John Grisham and the narrator.
At the beginning I was unsure if I was going to like this but I was surprised overall. I really like both of the narrators, they have done many David Baldacci books that I have listened to from Audible. This story had many twist and turns, very intertwined. I listen on my daily commute and it was so good I didn't want the commute to end each day! King and Maxwell make a great pair. Their shared history adds many interesting aspects to the story. So as not to be a spoiler I will say the last few chapters were crazy good! I hope there are more adventures planned for K&M.
This was a good listen overall. The story was good however somewhat predictable. The characters were very stable especially the Amish based ones. The "englisher" made his way into the community much to his chagrin. Without being a spoiler it's difficult to discuss more about the characters and the outcome. The narrator was easy to listen to for the most part.
As mentioned overall it was a good easy listen.
From the description I was unsure what to expect, especially with the story line. The characters were so interesting and it was overall heartwarming.
It's hard to give a good review without giving away too much of the story.
I always like hearing this male narrator and the female was good as well.
The characters came to life so vividly and I was sad to to see the book end.
If you are a NS fan this is a book for you!
This main character has nine lives for sure....some of the secondary characters were weak but the overall plot was good and then end result was pulled it all together.
Not my favorite narrator though.
Most of it was unbelievable to me..even though it's fiction.
It was difficult to follow what part of the story I was in.
I enjoyed the medical aspect thoroughly. Having no background in the African culture I was not a good judge of the authenticity of portions of the story.
The goodwill supposedly linked to the main character was questionable at times for me.
I have read quite a lot of the authors books and I would say this one is just average by far not his best.
This book took off a bit too slow for me....almost too detail oriented. Down to "I am putting on my shoes", etc. At times I thought of stopping the listen but I decided I would finish it.
This was my first book by this author. Not sure if I will read more. It just was not a stand out for me.
The narrator had a very thick accent which I think affected her performance. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either.
I do think the author did her research when it comes to lyme disease and all of the many laboratory tests that can be done and for that I do appreciate the authenticity.
In my opinion this story could have been told in 3/4 the time.
Perhaps the last few chapters were the most interesting.
I had read this in hard back quite some time back so it was refreshing to hear the book and it was even better than I remembered! It actually came to life from the story line to the characters especially the children.
The bad guys are bad...not particularly violent which was relieving.
This was a very well written story from beginning to end. Highly recommended!
++Love Jan Maxwell also!!
Can't imagine this happening to me! It's a disturbing story that at times was hard to follow due to the complexity of the story line.
Sometimes the best laid plans don't always turn out the way one would think especially for those with good intentions. That's is about all that can be said without spoiling for someone who has not "read" this.
Totally love Jan Maxwell as the narrator was the icing on the cake!
This one kept you guessing. Just when I thought I had it figured out there was a twist or turn. Good subject matter and scarily something that could actually take place.
Not my favorite narrator - just okay.
Read is a great one!
