After being murdered by a mystery assailant, navigating his way through the realm between life and death, and being brought back to the mortal world, Harry realizes that maybe death wasn’t all that bad - because he is no longer Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard. He is now Harry Dresden, Winter Knight to Mab, the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Harry had no choice but to swear his fealty, Mab wasn’t about to let something as petty as death steal away the prize she had sought for so long.

Lieutenant Commander Jason Reynolds has had a string of bad luck lately - evident by the uncomfortable house arrest bracelet strapped to his right ankle. Worse yet, he's relegated to his grandfather's old house and rambling scrapyard. To complicate things, the women in his life are pulling from every direction. But it's through a bizarre turn of events that Jason is led to a dried up subterranean aquifer hundreds of feet below ground. Here he discovers an advanced alien spacecraft, one that will propel his life in a new direction.

What would have made Scrapyard Ship better?

as far as military SF goes this is a joke. It had possibilities as the premise is kind of interesting however the writer does such a poor job of portraying strategy and tactics that the story just dropped flat for me. this book seems to be written for young teens too contrived for me

What was most disappointing about Mark Wayne McGinnis’s story?

I like military scifi that takes good tactics and strategy and puts them into new novel sf setting. this had a novel setting but the strategy and tactics were not up to par

Did L. J. Ganser do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

voicing was ok, a bit over the top

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I like the premise, it could have been very intereing

    Any additional comments?

I won't buy the rest of the series

Seventy years ago, the interstellar supercarrier Ark Royal was the pride of the Royal Navy. But now, her weapons are outdated and her solid-state armour nothing more than a burden on her colossal hull. She floats in permanent orbit near Earth, a dumping ground for the officers and crew the Royal Navy wishes to keep out of the public eye. But when a deadly alien threat appears, the modern starships built by humanity are no match for the powerful alien weapons.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    and better story

What was most disappointing about Christopher G. Nuttall’s story?

I like science and tactics in my military fiction this had very little of either. the author slapped on a couple of SF terms onto a WWII story and called it good

Have you listened to any of Ralph Lister’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    performance was fine

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    boredom

    Any additional comments?

thought it would have some of the aspects of "lost fleet" light speed limitations, formations and tactics. interesting tech . it had none of these

Stephanie Harrington had always expected to be a forest ranger on her homeworld of Meyerdahl until her parents relocated to the frontier planet of Sphinx in the far distant Star Kingdom of Manticore. It should have been the perfect new home - a virgin wilderness full of new species of every sort, just waiting to be discovered. But Sphinx is a far more dangerous place than ultra-civilized Meyerdahl, and Stephanie's explorations come to a sudden halt when her parents lay down the law: no trips into the bush without adult supervision!

yes but not in this series

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

    nothing

  • A Feast for Crows: A Song of Ice and Fire, Book IV

It is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces, some familiar, others only just appearing, are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead.

"not bad, you have no choice"
    Overall

my complaint is the reader, he is not bad in himself, but he could at least have listened to the previous books and used the same pronunciations. It detracts from the story to have to translate in my head when he uses different ones. That said you really need to hear this book to get to the next one so you have no choice
