While the powerlessness of the laboring class is a recurring theme in Steinbeck’s work of the late 1930s, he narrowed his focus when composing Of Mice and Men (1937), creating an intimate portrait of two men facing a world marked by petty tyranny, misunderstanding, jealousy, and callousness. But though the scope is narrow, the theme is universal: a friendship and shared dream that make an individual’s existence meaningful.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I found the language in this book highly offensive. The blatant use of the Lord's name in vain caused me to wince many times. I didn't care for the lack of morality of the main characters. The performance by Gary Sinise was excellent and really helped my daughter get through this book for her English class.

Which character – as performed by Gary Sinise – was your favorite?

    Gary did a great Lenny.

    Any additional comments?

If you are sensitive to harsh language, don't listen to this.

Would you try another book from Tom Clancy and/or Stephen Hoye?

I have listened to all of Clancy's Jack Ryan Books. I have really enjoyed them. I think that I like Sum of All Fears the best followed by Debt of Honor and Executive Orders. Those were written as a trilogy and they are excellent. Hunt for Red October is also an excellent read. The book that I found most disturbing was Without Remorse; an excellent story with very disturbing subject matter. Teeth of the Tiger is also troubling and not very realistic, but most of the story is fun.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was a cliff-hanger. It is particularly frustrating since Tom Clancy never finished the book. In fact, the book totally feels incomplete. Of all of the (actual) Tom Clancy books, I would rate this one at the bottom. The story starts out pretty good, but Clancy seems to have lost the thread

What does Stephen Hoye bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator did a good job and I had no complaints.

Do you think The Teeth of the Tiger needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes. Dead or Alive seems to be the follow-up, but it doesn't complete the original story.
