I enjoyed the book. I had never been to a boarding school nor was a scholarship student, but I found this to be a real likeness to what it might have been. I like to mix up my listening and this fit the bill for a light read between my more heavy reads. To me a book doesn’t have to about anything special... just like someone’s life. I loved it. Tina said she said it was not for those over 54.... well, I can say that you can be 70 and still like it.
This was a very heart warming book and totally enjoyed readying it. Its one you don't want to put down....... a story is so well written, and worth buying.
This is a great way to learn history. It should be a must read for school. For my own part, I could not put it down...I wanted to listen to 'what would happen next' at every idle moment.
There is not much more that I can add to what is already been said about this book.... I had trouble putting it down. Great read. Great story. It has you sitting on the edge of your chair as to what will happen next..... The write up sounded like it might be a good read, but I really didn't expect to be kept on the edge .
This is an easy read and an enjoyble story. I didn't want it to end.
I am very happy that I choose it and one I didn’t want to put down. It’s a Awesome read! I was not ready for the ending.
Grab a cup of coffee, a blanket and a HUGE box of tissues! You will enjoy every moment, every memory, every situation that this family goes through...
I was brought up in the west during the 40’and 50’ and could never understand why I could not play at my girlfriends house nor she mine and it was never explained. I never asked.
In the 60’and 70 we lived in an apartment where a gal and her family moved in from the South and she cried day and night that she wanted her “ nanny “ to come to take care of her kids, cook and clean for her
This book brings incredible insight as to their plight and times…. And should be a must read. I would highly recommend it.
There isn't anything more that I can say that has not already been said. I 'm very happy to have picked this book to read.....
I really enjoyed this book. It taught me a lot of history about my country during those years. Growing up you are told about this period of time in history but the schools never go into the hardships and headaches that people had to suffer. It’s heartbreaking to think about what the folks had to endure. Kids should have to read this book as part of their history studies. I can’t see the younger generation even being able to make it in today’s world if something like that was to come about.
What more could I add that has not already been said before......A fascinating story . If you like to hear first hand what it was like living it that time then you will love this book. I didn’t want to put it down.
