Well worth the wait

I first picked up this book because of my longing for a good space/alien/future tech series but now that I am into the second installment, I am just burnt out. I will finish the series (that is the obsessive compulsive in me), but I find that I am predicting the storyline 1 or two steps ahead of the author.Another problem I have here is the shear number of chapters, in the second installment I am only halfway through and at chapter 114. The chapter breaks leave the story too disjointed and feels haphazard.The story itself is also played out. Kids find alien ship, kids get super powers, kids try to over throw the evil doers.

If you are like me and saw the 2001 movie and felt lost in the ending half of the movie, the book clears it all up. I must have watched 2001 20 times and still was somewhat lost during the final half of the film. Having listened to the audiobook I now realize how much of the true story could not be conveyed in film.

If you are like me and would really like to understand the ending of the film, read/listen to the book, you will walk away with a far greater understanding.

Go F--king listen

If it were not for Samuel L. Jackson narrating this, I may have over looked it. But he makes this title worth the price.

The simple brilliance of the story concept amazes me. If you have grown up with Star Trek in one form or another you will immediately understand the story premise. However this story does seem to favor the original series more than any other.

My recommendations: Do not over analyse the story, but instead enjoy it as the comical parody that it is.

After you listen/read you may too find yourself wondering why no-one has ever thought of this before.

A great listen, if you are looking for a break in the heavy, thought provoking Sci-Fi of today. This story is for you.

With the WoT drawing to a close, I believe the Stormlight Archive will fill the void nicely. You can see a lot of Sanderson's refined work here. Sanderson has laid down a very strong and compelling foundation for a true Saga.

I do not want to give away any part of the story in this review, you should experience this work for the first time through the reading, not through this review. Just know that this is a story well worth the credit or cash.

Oh and it's long so be prepared to spend many hours zoning out to the sounds of Kate Reading and Michael Kramer. These are the same narrators that brought so much life into the WoT and they carry that passion here as well.

This first salvo of the Star Force series is a good listen, I would place this is the same area as John Ringo's Troy Rising series minus the heavy political commentary and minus the actually superior Alien species, just the superior Alien Technology.

As others have said, Larson does tend to repeat himself alot, and you will find your self thinking, why is he explaining this again. One example is how many times he will describe nanites, and the injections.

On a positive side, Larson doe snot overly explain technology nor does overly describe things, leaving you to fill in the rest with your own imagination.

In all the story is very good, and worth the credit. I am currently at book 4 of the series and it is still worth the time.

The explination of Alien visits and abductions.

Mr. Boyett has a strong voice although he does have a limited range when it come to multiple character voices. You will find he uses the same voice for several characters.

First, this is the first book I have listened to by this author so I cannot say if previous or future works will measure to this, but if this book is any indicator of what to expect then this is an author to watch for.

The story is a new twist on the space marine shoot-em-up adventure where in the end the main character learns about himself and the universe around him. The twist comes in the fact that the main characters are not the young 18-something snot nosed know-it-alls fresh out of High School, but instead a group of 65 year old men and women given a new lease on life. It's the age old "If I had my knowledge of today in my body at 20" wish lived out, with some alien slaughter to boot.

Even if you are not heavy into war type Sci-Fi I still think you will enjoy this book.

Worth buying and worth the time to listen.

Never have I been so captivated by a book that before I was even done with the first book, I was on here buying the rest of the series (that is currently available). This book is one of the few that I can say keeps you interested from start to finish. A great read / listen.

Like so many stories, I felt like the ending here left you wanting more. The majority of this book I felt was very good, but the final few chapters seem to overly rush events and after the conclusion of the main story arc I do not think enough time was spend on what happens to the main characters after. This is especially true with Edeard. Given the events that bring him into the final act, I would expect there to have been more about what he plans for his life. Also I was not a fan of what was done with Gor in the closing chapter. Other than that, I think this is still a great listen and if you have made it this far in the series then you own it to yourself to experience the ending.
