When Rigg and his friends crossed the Wall between the only world they knew and a world they could not imagine, he hoped he was leading them to safety. But the dangers in this new wallfold are more difficult to see. Rigg, Umbo, and Param know that they cannot trust the expendable, Vadesh - a machine shaped like a human, created to deceive - but they are no longer certain that they can even trust one another. But they will have little choice. Because although Rigg can decipher the paths of the past, he can’t yet see the horror that lies ahead: A destructive force with deadly intentions is hurtling toward Garden.

What did you like best about this story?

The story moved pretty quickly and kept me interested and engaged. I enjoyed the plot twists that Card introduced throughout. It was definitely not the storyline I was anticipating.

The constant whining by one or more of the characters got on my nerves and detracted from the pace of the story, but I suppose it served to develop the characters.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I did not like that the narrators switched based on who's perspective we were hearing the story from. I understand why the story was produced this way, but it was a little annoying. That said, it didn't annoy me NEARLY as much as it did with the first book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

There were definitely times when I did not want to put this down. Especially when they were dealing with the computers and expendibles. The story definitely kept me interested and I will be purchasing the next book when it is completed.

Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

    Any additional comments?

This story, while highly unbelievable, was incredibly entertaining. I thought the characters were interesting and I was rooting for their triumph (the good ones, anyway). I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next.

I was disappointed in what felt like a cliffhanger at the end of the story, so I'm guessing there are more stories out there to follow this one.

What did you like best about this story?

This was another great thriller from DeMille. From the opening of the story, I was hooked, and it definitely did not let me down. I thought the characters were fantastic and the pace of the story kept me listening for more. I happened to start watching the new FX show "The Americans" as I was in the middle of this book, which really struck me as ironic and made me wonder if there really could be Russian spies in America posing as Americans.

    Great story - scarily believable!

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott Brick is one of my favorite narrators. He does fantastic accents and voices and always brings me into whatever story I'm listening to.

Anti-Terrorist Task Force agent John Corey and his wife, FBI agent Kate Mayfield, have been posted overseas to Sana'a, Yemen - one of the most dangerous places in the Middle East. While there, they will be working with a small team to track down one of the masterminds behind the USS Cole bombing: a high-ranking Al Qaeda operative known as The Panther. Ruthless and elusive, he's wanted for multiple terrorist acts and murders - and the U.S. government is determined to bring him down, no matter the cost.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I don't regret the time I spent on this book, however I don't feel it lived up to the other John Corey books. The plot didn't progress as quickly and it lacked much of the suspense that his other books have. That said, it was still an enjoyable book and if another John Corey book comes out, I will likely purchase that book as well.

I don't think the performance of Scott Brick had anything to do with the slow-ness of the story - he is still one of my favorite narrators.

What made the experience of listening to Thunderhead the most enjoyable?

I have really come to appreciate the storytelling style of Preston & Child. This is another great story from them and it kept me on the edge of my seat nearly from the beginning of the story. I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a good, solid suspense story.
