Shortly after the death of King Solomon in 931 B.C., the Promised Land is divided into two separate nations: Israel in the north, and Judah in the south. Hezekiah is the second son of King Ahaz of Judah. As he comes to power, he must navigate a troubled path to reunite his wayward people with Yahweh.

    "This was a GREAT listen!"
    Overall

I work at an incredibly mundane data-entry job. Monday I started listening and by Wednesday I had finished it and purchased the 2nd in the series! It was so entertaining! At first, the narrator was sort of annoying, but I was quickly absorbed by the story and characters and didn't even notice it anymore.

Although the book was written a few years ago (not to mention the "original" book thousands of years ago), the themes are very much relavant to today. Between wars and treachery, greed and apathy, this story could be written about many public figures today along with other individuals in our own lives.

Book 2 has been equally entertaining. I'll download the 3rd in the series by the end of the weekend!

In the compelling conclusion to the New York Times best-seller Her Mother’s Hope, Christy Award-winning author Francine Rivers explores the sorrow that can tear families apart and the grace that can heal the deepest wounds. Just as Carolyn had formed a stronger bond with her Oma Marta than with her mother, so Carolyn’s daughter is drawn to her grandma more than to a mom who’s caught up in the 1960s counterculture....

    Overall

As a mother and daughter myself, I thought this was a vivid portrayal of how you can truly love someone and still completely misunderstand them. This book (along with the Her Mother's Hope) really helped me through a painful and prolonged disagreement with my 24 yr old daughter. As my only daughter, she holds a special place in my heart, but she can frustrate and infuriate me like no one else. As the first grandchild, she also has a special relationship with my mother that I don't have with either of them. If you have a daughter, mother or grandmother you'll appreciate the insight this book offers. It opened my eyes to perspectives I had never really considered before.
