I was surprised as this was well reviewed. The narrator was skillful but quite affected. The story was good basic adventure but very religious. Full of heavy handed Christianity (Catholic) Lots about Lord God and sin and penance etc etc. Having just listened to the entire Bloody Jack series and enjoyed it immensely, this was not a keeper.
This is such a great series. The entire family is hooked. Kellgren is a master and the adventures of Jackie never fail.
I love this series so much that I listen without my 10 and 13 year old boys sometimes which, is a good thing, as Jackie's 'romantic' interest this round is a courtesan turned female pirate. When my son asked me what Jackie meant when she talked about being 'petted a lot' I was thrown...The Asian angle is wonderful but as she grows up I like her less and less. It is still a great series but this is my least favorite.
Both thoroughly entertaining and equally moving. Dealt with the truth of war and the loss involved of those you love. Napoleon and being a 'dancer' in Paris. Delicious flirtation. Great fun.
Yes - We have kids and while it works for them we also thoroughly enjoy it.
The narrator is terrific and the story is highly entertaining.
I love Evanovitch. I always consider her books to be great, light fun. Therefore unfortunately, I didnt listen to the sample.
Performance was at best mediocre and the production value was such that I could hear the narrator breathing after every sentence. It was hugely distracting.
Having read the book and being addicted to audiobooks I tried hard to give it a go. I abandoned this one very early on - it was simply awful.
NO! I find her heavy breathing every sentence highly distracting and too little personality with characters and accents.
