The pairing of author Lemony Snicket and reader Tim Curry is simply brilliant! Like certain film directors and their favorite actors, when artists collide who just "get" each other, the work comes to life in a way that transcends the medium. I am a great fan of Lemony Snicket's "Unfortunate Events" Series. I love the relentless ingenuity of the Boudelaire orphans, and the way that 'adults' fail them at every opportunity. Curry's gleeful malevolence as Olaf, and the depths of shallowness that he manages to impart in his characterizations of the Squalors makes me giddy. I recommend all of the books in this series that Curry has recorded. Though Lemony Snickett himself does a better than average job as author-turned-narrator on some of the other books, the offerings with Tim Curry are the best of the series.

I was looking for books in the steam-punk genre and stumbled across Boneshaker. The book kept me engaged for several days as I painted a mural in a friend's house. With sufficient steam-punk details to satisfy, and two good narrators, I stayed interested for the duration of the listen. I did enjoy the complete absence of female victims here. It was refreshing to let the old broads be both wise and kick ass- and not even a little concerned about the suppleness of their body parts. I wanted to LOVE this book, for all its uniqueness, but somehow I think the thing that will last the longest for me- is the cool cover art.

I only recently discovered the SHOWTIME series based on this book- and I was not disappointed by either of them. The narrator was excellent, and getting a peek into the mind of a sociopath was just the kind of fresh, twisted literary adventure that grabs and holds my attention. Who knew that an anti-hero, completely devoid of emotion or conscience, could be so compelling?

I've loved and reread "The Mists of Avalon" since I discovered it many years ago. Davina Porter does an excellent job with the narration. My only gripe is that the book is broken into FOUR short parts, instead of TWO longer parts or being sold as a 2 credit option. This makes for one VERY expensive read for the complete book. I bristle.

This is a good book, and fairly well narrated, except that the voices of the "Tiberians" all sound like Transylvanian vampires.( This is NOT a vampire book) I found it wildly distracting. The earlier books in the series which feature Phaedre and Jocelyn are much more interesting, but the horribly pedantic narrator of those books ruined things for me. I couldn't even listen to the whole preview(I tried, I really tried), so I settled for the better of two narrators from a series I really love. Read the books instead- and make up your own voices.

Paul Boehmer's performance as Dr. Impossible is so gleefully snarky, its hard to find superlatives equal to it. He is just brilliant!

Imagine eavesdropping on the next table over lunch at a Star Trek convention- and this book is what you would get- Hour after hour of quantum and theoretical physics debate with no discernible plot or character development. I am a fan of SCI FI, but at about hour 22 I finally just gave up hoping that anything would actually HAPPEN. I cannot imagine what the other reviewers were thinking in recommending this book- unless they were afraid of appearing anti-intellectual by panning it. I want my 2 CREDITS back!

..but as engaging as the instruction manual for your desktop printer. Dry and colorless prose. The literary equivalent of cardboard. Erotica?! Pffft!
If I had paid for this, I would have been VERY put out...

I thought it was a great listen, highly erotic, and very well read and written. Judging by the outrage from other readers, they must have been expecting something more conventionally romantic- which this is decidedly NOT. You say 'pornography'- I say "erotica". I hope the detractors don't have an undue influence on audible's buyers. I really liked this book, as well as the erotica of Kristina Lloyd. I'd like to hear more from both of these writers.

...This is smart, raw and raunchy erotica- complexly drawn and brilliantly read- with enough plot and character development to make it good fiction as well.

This is best described as a sexually-explicit Romance novel. The plot begins promisingly enough, but rapidly sinks to simplistic stereotypes and a lot of pedestrian sex play.

If you like your erotica on the vanilla side, and your characters simple and uncomplicated, you'll enjoy this read.
