I have listened to all the books in this series. This is my least favorite yet. Camile comes across as weak and pathetic to me. The series as a whole is decent but something has bothered me all along and this book slammed it home. The story lines are more of what I would expect from young adult books except for one thing.... the sex. There are usually 3 to 4 fairly graphic sex scenes in each book. I don't mind sex in a book, if it adds something to the story but for me, in these books it just doesn't.
I have to say.... I might pass on the next book that comes out with Camile as the lead. Early on she was my favorite of the 3 but as I get to know her, not so much.
I can't believe I used good credits for this. I should have heeded other reviewers warnings.
The narrator is one of the worst I have heard in a very long time. I listen to books on long drives and this one is actually putting me to sleep. Very monotonous narration and irritating mispronunciations of words.
The story shows promise, however it needs serious editing. The entire writing style feels very much like a brand new writer who has not developed her skills.
I love all the Jane Yellowrock books but this is a huge let down.
I love Jim Dale and think his performance was as to be expected. I really wanted to love the story. The premise has alot of promise however, I really struggled to keep focused on this story. I work while I listen and a really good listen holds my attention fully even while working. This book is sadly not one of those.
The book was just too "all over the place" jumping from one century to another and from character to character far too often. Although I did listen all the way through eventually, it is not a book I would recommend or even listen to again.
Let me start by saying I LOVE the Dresden Files and expected a similar listen. The plot is OK and the character development is a bit slow but the reader, UGH! I listen while I work and have to listen to my books through ear buds. I own a very good set since I listen 8 to 10 hours a day 4 days a week. This reader hurts my ears literally. Not constantly but when she emphasizes certain words its like a harpy screeching in my ear. Also, the corny and painful heralding of a new chapter is not necessary and really takes away from the story for me. I don't think I can listen to the entire series. Too bad since my understanding is that the books just get better and better.
